Redblacks @ Argos / Stampeders @ Leos - Rick Campbell's Last Stand & Race For The East

If you think Rick Campbell is a problem in Ottawa, you haven't been watching the games. It's an expansion team that got significantly better, at least on D, as the year went on. He got about as much outta them as could be expected...

Coaching isn't the issue. Having a crappy GM who screwed up his qbs was. The Glenn/Burris thing & now the Burris albatross contract no one will want.

You really think that Kevin Glenn would've put up more wins than Burris did this year, playing behind that OL?

That seems ... like a odd thing to believe.

Also, don't forget that trading Glenn allowed them to pick up Antoine Pruneau, a very good young starting Canadian.

You want to hang something on Desjardins, you can point at their crappy import receiving corps.  But I think he's played his QB situation fine.  He basically got a bonus starting Canadian by signing Burris and trading Glenn.

And here's where we disagree.

Kevin Glenn probably would have put up 1 or 2 more wins than Burris, maybe more, as he would have been a more consistent player and certainly as good in the locker room.

Glenn would have had the luxury of having better receivers, bought and paid for with the savings from Burris's contract.

Maybe even our own Nick Moore would have been a RedBlack.

I'll give you the Pruneau factor as he seems to be an exciting player, but I still say Ottawa would have had at least 2 more FAgents from the money savings, and that would have helped this dismal team.

Ottawa had trouble attracting big name free agents after the "Kevin Glenn: my Twitter was hacked" drama after he called Desjardins a snake.

There wouldn't have been a snake call out if Desjardins had kept his word to Glenn.

No ill will, just $$$$ for FAs

Glenn would have been their"ambassador, and he would have been good at it.

I'm going to lay my money down that he is.  Since when did any coach keep their job after only winning two games with a highly favorable expansion draft?

The last coach who coached an expansion team who only won 2 games (Dom Capers) got fired immediately, there's no way Campbell stays after that gong show he put on this year.  I'm gonna bet the whole lotto on that.

Pro-tip: do not buy a lottery ticket today.

I'd consider it a miracle if Ottawa fans could put up with 5 points averaged all year

As well as Rick Campbell's new version of Mike Kelly's double QB system.  That's what this is reminding me of.

toronto backup to ray looking quite good. And he's 28 years old.

They must have some good quarterback coaching and offensive play calling there.

They keep turning out good quarterbacks.

Man and people want to bag on this coaching staff for staying patient with Willy, yet they think Campbell is no less stubborn and should be defended for sticking with O'Brien.

Ridiculous

I got one better - as a coach I survived not one but TWO 2 - 14 seasons, back to back, with an existing club. Granted, I was a legend in that town, and was fired after the second year, but I learned. I went on to be a very successful Coach in Edmonton and Hamilton, winning a Grey Cup in each city as a coach, in between my gigs as a color commentator on the CBC. Do you know who I am?

The little general.

We can only thank Desjardins for taking Burris off our hands.

Desjardins solving the QB problems in Winnipeg & BC all by himself!

Losing Wallace Miles was actually a bit of a hit though. I have no doubt that he would've fared better here than Kelly & Romby.

Who do you want the 2-16 RedBlacks to be playing in a meaningless game? Henry Burris? Joey Elliot? Why not give O'Brien the reps?

Cuz he's an int throwing machine

and he just got lucky they didn't call fumble on that one.  No defender was even near him on that wobbler.  Man, not even Jason Boltus was this bad.

anyone watching the bisons playoff game?

37-35 huskies halfway through the third quarter.

I'm here with you @ 40-37 Bisons now..

Man that Yantz is something.

And, oh, that Demski fellow isn't too bad either.

Good game.

OMG what a pick!

And just like that the Calgary Stampeders backups with the go-head lead.

It's early yet but I'm surprised at the lacklusterness I'm seeing out of BC.  I suppose they don't want to play Edmonton again next week but they're headed to the execution chamber in Montreal anyway, so doesn't seem there's any point to throw this game.

Demski to Yantz for the TD lol

Crazy play!!

1st, the Bisons get jobbed on that stupid phantom interference play, then that pick, and the crazy call for their best receiver to throw a winning TD to their QB.

Brian Dobie just happens to be the ST Coach as well.

And the Bisons win.

We'll now return you to your regularly scheduled program...
