AtlanticRiderFan Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 Hmm, I'm actually kind of surprised by this. But he wasn't doing a good job, so it was time to move on. Still undetermined whether it was on his accord or whether it was on the management.
Bigblue204 Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 Should have been hired the instant after Madani tweeted it. Get'er done O'Shea. It's MOS, c'mon... you really think he'd do that? I don't. Hey wait, the Riders made a coaching move the day before the GC... no they didn't. There's been no official statement by the team. comedygeek 1
sweep the leg Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 He'll be the OC in BC with Lapo as HC. I've read this in too many places to not believe it's what will happen. Would absolutely love to get him here though.
sweep the leg Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 Why would he go To ottawa as OC instead of here? I say BC HC or OC in calgary but I think we have a real shot if we want it You think Calgary would replace Dickenson?
gbill2004 Posted November 29, 2014 Author Report Posted November 29, 2014 From Arash Madani: NOVEMBER 29, 2014, 5:25 PM VANCOUVER — The freefall of the Saskatchewan Roughriders season will claim at least its offensive coordinator, and likely more members of the team’s coaching staff. Sportsnet has learned the Riders have parted ways with offensive coordinator George Cortez, only a year after winning the Grey Cup. Cortez is believed to be one of a number of Saskatchewan coaches that will not return in 2015. The Roughriders got off to a terrific 8-2 start this season, but lost quarterback Darian Durant to a torn elbow tendon in September. From there, the team was lost offensively — ineffective with back-ups Tino Sunseri and Seth Doege. Kerry Joseph was called off the couch from retirement in October, but did not help down the stretch, nor in the West semi-final playoff loss to the Edmonton Eskimos. Cortez’s play calling came under fire throughout the season, and whispers from within the organization suggested a stubbornness to change. Saskatchewan special teams coach Bob Dyce may also find a new home. Sources said Dyce is interviewing for both the University of Regina head coaching job, as well as the offensive coordinator vacancy with the Ottawa RedBlacks.

M.O.A.B. Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 my guess will be... Huff vacate the Stamps HC job and promote Dickenson then they hire Cortez as OC. Dickenson as rookie HC with Cortez and Stubler as veteran coordinators would be a very good starting HC setup for Dickenson. Floyd 1

I think BC will go either Lapo OR Cortez. George will go to OTT to OC before us for 1 big fat reason -- $$$$$ JohnnyOnTheSpot 1

JuranBoldenRules Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 I don't see Dickenson and Cortez being a good fit. Dickenson will keep control of the offence when he becomes a head coach IMO, don't think Cortez would take a CFL job where he's not calling the plays. gbill2004 and Blue-urns 2

I also can't see Cortez and Lapo working together.
Zontar Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 So much for taking GC week off before making business moves... Problem with scapegoats is eventually you run out of them. If proven coaching talent is leaving your team - you've got problems
Noeller Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 Can two extremely stubborn people, in Cortez and MOS work together?
gbill2004 Posted November 30, 2014 Author Report Posted November 30, 2014 Can two extremely stubborn people, in Cortez and MOS work together? Good question. It seems O'Shea is pretty hands off regarding the offense so I think that dynamic might work. JohnnyOnTheSpot and Blue-urns 2
Zontar Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 Dont know what's funnier - SSK fans trying to convince themselves Cortez was the problem or banking on Madani - the ambulance chaser's sources. Brandon and SPuDS 2

Noeller Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 Not 100% sure about Dyce as OC, but Dyce on staff in some capacity is an absolute yes. Love that guy...good coach, better man/person.... Blue-urns, saskbluefan and SPuDS 3
James Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 Sweet! The dream of Cortez and Washington is officially alive! TBURGESS 1
Brandon Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 I wasn't aware that it was Cortez who benched Allen because of a fumble and then rotated in a trio of other rbs who also fumbled and then went back to Allen... I wasn't aware that Cortez was out on the field dropping balls left and right.... I wasn't aware that Cortez designed a working offense with a guy like Durant who thrives on moving the pocket and which worked great and then plugged in a QB like Sunseri who was the complete opposite and then didn't design a whole new offense to fit Sunseri's skill set. I wasn't aware that Cortez forced Kerry Joseph to throw 4 poor ints.... Cortez has a great track record.... he is being the scapegoat for the Riders slump this year. Easily would be the best hiring if we could do it in a long time. I unfortunately see him going to Ottawa for big moolah... Mr. Perfect and Blue-urns 2
TrueBlue Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 When was the last time a team fired a coach to hire another one that just came available?
Zontar Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 Hard to make a case this makes the Riders better though a ton will try. Sooner or later the teflon will wear out on Chamblin - book it.
BigBlue Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 I am not at all confident about what the Blue are going to do about our coordinators .. in fact I feel nervous about what is being argued out behind the scenes rebusrankin 1
