WBBFanWest Posted December 3, 2014 Report Posted December 3, 2014 Well, let's see since 1990, the Bombers have won 0 Grey Cups. Buono, 5. It's true that after the 2002 season when he left Calgary, they were in a slump, but then again, they did win the Cup in 2001, so I don't think that he did too terribly bad. He might not win a Cup every year, but there aren't too many seasons that he fails to put together a competitive team. No one has said Wally's a football god, or the smartest GM that has ever lived. But he's been a damned site better than any GM we've had in his organization for a long time now and I'd take his record since 1990 over ours any day of the week.
JuranBoldenRules Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Talk about Wally all you want, his team is an absolute disaster right now. Quite honestly, they've probably got to be feeling worse about themselves than any other franchise in the league right now and it's the exact same reason we struggled for a very long time - no QB, no OL, no hope. Here's the deal - Wally will fix his problem, not sure the Bomber Brain Trust can do the same! The offensive line has been a problem for Wally for 3 years, remember how they had to start Kabongo and the pollster for 2 years? Not much progress being made there. blitzmore and Atomic 2
Floyd Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Sure wish we could see neufeld at RT instead of guard
Mike Posted December 4, 2014 Author Report Posted December 4, 2014 In the last four years, Wally's team has a record of 38-34 Hardly anything to write home about. SPuDS 1

17to85 Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 In the last four years, Wally's team has a record of 38-34 Hardly anything to write home about. I think Wally Buono the coach was better than Wally Buono the GM.
iso_55 Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 In the last four years, Wally's team has a record of 38-34 Hardly anything to write home about. How many 15-3 seasons has Walters had?

How many 15-3 seasons has Walters had? For the umpteenth time ... what does that have to do with anything being discussed in this thread? blitzmore 1
New_Earth_Mud Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 In the last four years, Wally's team has a record of 38-34 Hardly anything to write home about. What are the other GMs?
rebusrankin Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 In the last four years, Wally's team has a record of 38-34 Hardly anything to write home about. What are the other GMs? Winnipeg is 26 and 46
Mike Posted December 4, 2014 Author Report Posted December 4, 2014 Exactly. We've been a total dumpster fire. You'd think with how godly people make Buono seem, he'd be doing better than 3 wins a year more than us.
TBURGESS Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Hard to complain about Wally's record when our Bombers were 26-46 in the last 4 years. BTW: 3 out of 4 years weren't Wally the coach.
Mike Posted December 4, 2014 Author Report Posted December 4, 2014 Not talking about Wally the coach - he's great. Wally the scout? Great. Wally the general manager? Average.
TBURGESS Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Wally the GM and Coach great. Wally the GM, Benny as coach, not so much. That's why he's gone.
Mike Posted December 4, 2014 Author Report Posted December 4, 2014 Wally the GM and Coach great. Wally the GM, Benny as coach, not so much. That's why he's gone. Or maybe Wally the coach made Wally the GM look better than he actually is.
TBURGESS Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Wally's been coaching or GM/Coaching or just GM'ing since 1990 and has missed the playoffs once. He's not perfect, but he's about as close as a coach/GM gets in the CFL.

Floyd Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Not a lot of teams can lose their starting qb, backup and replacement bavckup over the course of a season and a half and still make the playoffs... If lulay is healthy next season, buono will get them back in contention

That carries a lot weight IMO.
Blueandgold Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 The Bombers have made the playoffs just once since 2009. I'd say that it still holds a decent amount of significance.

But.. But. But. Buano!
SPuDS Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 In the last four years, Wally's team has a record of 38-34 Hardly anything to write home about. No! Stop with facts and supporting points!
B-F-F-C Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Again...no one is arguing Wally's record as a GM/Coach and success. It was originally said that Wally so far in the post season has made moves that has improved his team and Walter's has done nothing. I argued that Walter's off season signings have been more impactful than Wally's firing and non signings. But everything Wally does is tinged with gold and everything Walter's does is just not good enough. IMO...Walter's has made some solid moves since the season ended. But many wont be happy until the firing of one or both the DC and OC is fired.
B-F-F-C Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 John Hufnagel is the best GM in the league and has been for the last 3 - 4 years. Wally has been on the downside for the past couple of years now.
