The Unknown Poster Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Fantastic. Didnt you say you would retain him if you were the Bombers?
Mike Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Fantastic. Didnt you say you would retain him if you were the Bombers? I probably would have. But there were valid arguments on either side of the fence. I'm just happy I don't have to hear about it anymore. Wanna-B-Fanboy 1
Armchair GM Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I'm glad he's gone... the interesting question is: Did the evaluation process REALLY take this long, or did they wait until they had a suitable candidate to fill his shoes? Hoping the other shoe drops quickly.
Bomber_fanaddict Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 And here I thought today couldn't get any better! This should be a .gif thread....
Tracker Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Its never a pleasant thing to wish for and have someone fired but this was necessary- like pulling a rotten tooth. I do feel for Etch- this was both obviously coming and it couldn't have been fun for Etch to wait by the phone knowing what it would bring. But its done and time to move on. Mr Dee 1
Jpan85 Posted December 17, 2014 Author Report Posted December 17, 2014 Bombers Relieve Etcheverry of Coaching DutiesWednesday, December 17th, 2014 The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has relieved defensive coordinator Gary Etcheverry of his duties with the club. “Obviously a decision like this is a very difficult one to make on many levels,” said Head Coach Mike O’Shea. “The reality of the situation is such that we simply weren’t good enough on the defensive side of the football this season, and felt that we needed to go in a different direction in this regard. Gary is a good man and a good football coach, and the Blue Bombers wish him well moving forward.” Regarding the position coaches on the defensive staff, O’Shea added, “The defensive staff are not under contract for next season, however the incoming defensive coordinator will have the opportunity to move forward with any of these coaches if he sees fit.”
M.O.A.B. Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 CFLDaily @CFLDaily Bombers HC Mike O'Shea says none of the defensive staff is under contract for 2015, and the new DC will decide if anyone is back. #CFL
Jpan85 Posted December 17, 2014 Author Report Posted December 17, 2014 Bombers will have O'Shea's press conference live on the site at 2
coach17 Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Don't like to see anyone lose their job , but this was a move that had to be made in order to improve. A shutdown defence would go a long way towards a Grey Cup appearance next year. brett_c_b 1
Mark F Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Whether or not he did a good job, I feel sorry for the fired coach. tough for him and his family, especially when people are so happy about it. who's going to be the next coach. more importantly where's iso_55? I'm actually going to miss the whining about this.
NotoriousBIG Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Had to be done. Even Richie Hall would be an improvement. Much work yet to be done.
The Unknown Poster Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I guess we know who won the power struggle.
M.O.A.B. Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 as per Lawless, names that will be in consideration for Etch replacement... Barron Miles, Devone Claybrooks and Ritchie Hall.
Stickem Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 The inevitable has taken place after the club tanked so bad in the last part of the season. Moving on from Etch. is certainly a positive. Now, who takes his place? Glad to see we've cleared the way and can get in the hunt. Finally. My money is on Hall BUT IF Washington is available in B.C....??? could we go that route.
TBURGESS Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I can't remember a time I was happier to be wrong. Great move to get rid of Etch. I wish it had come a month ago, but that's just splitting hairs at this point. Wanna-B-Fanboy 1
Captain Blue Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I wasn't that happy to see him gone, but that list of names has me much more positive.
Mike Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 as per Lawless, names that will be in consideration for Etch replacement... Barron Miles, Devone Claybrooks and Ritchie Hall. Of the three ... I think I'd want Claybrooks, Hall or Miles in that order. Claybrooks really intrigues me because if O'Shea wanted Stubler last year, he's probably going to be interested in the guy's understudy. That being said, a lot of talk floating around that Claybrooks is pretty set on staying in Calgary. If I was a betting man, I'd say we end up with Hall.
