Rich Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 hearing #CFL Commissioner is down to 3… Tom Anselmi, a former national retail brand CEO and a Montreal based investment banker #bn — gary lawless (@garylawless) January 20, 2015 Tom Anselmi (born c. 1956) is a Canadian sports executive who most recently served as the President and COO for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. Anselmi is an alumnus of Ryerson University and University of Saskatchewan. Not sure what qualifications an investment banker would have to be commissioner of the CFL.
ALuCsRED Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 I was expecting to see David Braley (owner of BC Lions), David Braley (former Canadian Senator) and David Braley (owner of the Toronto Argos). FrostyWinnipeg 1
The Unknown Poster Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 Anselmi is interesting. You'd think he'd have some influence is solving the Argos mess.

I see where this is going.
iso_55 Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 I was expecting to see David Braley (owner of BC Lions), David Braley (former Canadian Senator) and David Braley (owner of the Toronto Argos) At one time I think he did actually want to be Commish while still owning the Ti Cats.

Investment bankers are regarded as dealmakers at a very high stakes level. I could see how that could benefit a CFL commissioner, who often has to bring two (or more) sides together to make a deal; be it labour, media, or stadiums, etc.
Tracker Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 And we all know how successful the flagship franchise, the Maple Leafs have been under his watch.

DR. CFL Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 Like it or not, or agree or not. This is a high profile job that needs someone that is seriously connected in the large markets. Don't kid yourself that big buck TSN deal is seriously predicated on the large TV markets.
Zontar Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 Job #1. Tell GMs to stop keeping Kavis Reed employed
kelownabomberfan Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 I was expecting to see David Braley (owner of BC Lions), David Braley (former Canadian Senator) and David Braley (owner of the Toronto Argos). You never put your name up for the job when you can put a puppet in charge instead.
JuranBoldenRules Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 The fact that nobody with a CFL history is interested in the job is a pretty good indication of how the job is viewed. A thankless job with no opportunity for the commissioner to control the dialogue or get anything done.
DR. CFL Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Curious about the last post?have you seen the list of applicants?
gbill2004 Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Curious about the last post?have you seen the list of applicants?Read the Lawless tweet a few posts up.
bigg jay Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Curious about the last post?have you seen the list of applicants?Read the Lawless tweet a few posts up. Lawless just listed the finalists, not a full list of applicants. JBR said nobody with CFL experience was interested but who's to say there wasn't and they just didn't make the final cut?
Mr Dee Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 So in other words no Mark Cohons? No Cohons, or No cajones... There is a difference.
iso_55 Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Just as long as it isn't a guy like Donald Grump... err... Crump.
DR. CFL Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Coho had no CFL experience and by all account he was a smiling face shaking glands and kissing babies
gbill2004 Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Coho had no CFL experience and by all account he was a smiling face shaking glands and kissing babiesPlus he had the best tan I've ever seen on a commissioner.

Atomic Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Coho had no CFL experience and by all account he was a smiling face shaking glands and kissing babies Shaking glands? Which glands? Mammary glands? That sly dog.

Tracker Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Cohon was the best Commissioner since forever. He will be a hard act to follow, especially the George Hamilton III-mahogany type tan. awesome.
