Watson is 31 or going to be. Has injury issues. Love him when healthy but couldn't stay healthy. 4 picks in top 20. 3 in top 15 plus lots of salary opened up. Solid move really. Thinking Demski or Durant at 2 is very possible now

what about that highly rated D lineman? take him at #2 and then 2 OL.

Rumours are he may be NFL bound. High as the 5th round even. Waud

Sure looks like we traded our 20th pick and not a pick that we didn't have...

Taman only moves five spots down - still a good trade for Walters but pretty sure pierchanzki or whoever was their fourth NI not bastien

You're assuming everybody in the media is wrong?

We switched 3rd rounders with the Ticats in the trade for that mlb whose name escapes me.

Not just the media but the Bombers too. From the Bombers website: "In return, the Riders secured wide receiver Cory Watson and the 26th overall pick in the 2015 CFL draft.."

Kromah? According to reports, Hamilton traded him to us for future considerations. The official announcement made no mention of a draft pick coming to us.

Anyone else hear rumblings Corey wasn't happy here and wanted out?

According to Lawless' column: "The reality is Watson was not interested in coming back to Winnipeg and had threatened retirement if he wasn’t traded." Doug Brown said Watson wanted to be traded to an Eastern team. And then

Cory Watson tells @680CJOB surprised by trade to #Riders but understands it's a business & is grateful for his time in WPG with #Bombers

So who knows?

I'm surprised to hear Watson wanted out like that. Makes this trade look even better that we can get a good haul for a guy we would have lost regardless.

Full marks to Watson for not going public with his desire to get out and letting us get something for him in return.

If we truly switched third rounders in the Kromah trade then that would mean we do not have pick 20. We traded it for 26, which we just traded. Hence, no third round pick.

That's what I was getting at,  yeah. Still confused

Maybe it was net lister going to Hamilton for Kromah also he is not on the roster any more not sure if that has anything to do with not giving up the other pick in 3rd round.

Thinking about this again, the reports only talked about the Bombers having 3 picks in the top 15. IIRC it's been fan assumption that we still had #20 before the trade.

Kirk Penton has a very informative article in today's Sun:

Thanks to getting the 15th overall pick, the Bombers now have the second, 11th and 15th selections in what is being described as a deep 2015 draft class.

The reason why the trade could work both now and in the future for the Bombers is because of the salary cap space the Blue and Gold gained with Thursday's transaction. Watson will make $120,000 this season, while Bastien can't be earning much more than the league minimum, which this season will be $51,000.

...

The Bombers had the 26th overall pick after flipping their third-round selections in the Abe Kromah deal with the Tiger-Cats. That means Hamilton has Winnipeg's 20th overall selection.

Yes very interesting. I guess Wikipedia needs to update their 2015 draft page.

IF the reports are true and Watson wanted out of here, it'll put a BIG asterisk beside his name for me, regarding his time here in the last little while. Makes me wonder about all the time he spent in the tub. Makes one play and is gonzo for a stretch. If that's the kind of player he is, glad he's with the riders.
