The Unknown Poster Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 http://www.winnipegsun.com/2015/02/18/hockey-players-dont-want-to-play-in-these-cities Of all the NHL cities, which would you least like to visit? If you said Edmonton or Winnipeg, it seems most NHLers agree. ESPN’s Craig Custance asked 10 hockey agents which three cities most commonly appear on no-trade clauses submitted by their clients. And it was no surprise who took top spot. The Edmonton Oilers – currently the second-worst team in the NHL – are usually looked over because of their “climate, lack of success and being a Canadian team,” Custance wrote. For similar reasons, the Winnipeg Jets were second on the list, followed by the last-place Buffalo Sabres. Rounding out ESPN’s list were the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs, where the media market is so insane players don’t want any part of it. Florida and Arizona were honourable mentions, finishing just outside the top five. ***Interesting poll that really hits home that chance to win plays a bigger role than locale.
Atomic Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 Not even slightly surprising, unfortunately.
Rich Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 Heard an interview on this. These lists are submitted in the summer before the season begins. Who thought we would be in a playoff hunt this year in the off season? While we will never be a prime location for size, geography, or climate, become a regular playoff team and contender and this can change for some players. BomberFan, blitzmore and Jaxon 3

Start a tradition of winning and slowly but surely our name should slide off that list. Noeller 1
The Unknown Poster Posted February 18, 2015 Author Report Posted February 18, 2015 That was my big take away, that they seemed more interested in an opportunity to win and a good environment. Toronto was low on the list because they suck and its a fishbowl. But beautiful warm cities like Miami and Glendale scored low too.

The city of Detroit teeters on the edge of economic apocalypse, but the Red Wings retain their players and attract the occasional noteworthy free agent. They are the franchise the Jets should be modeled after - they draft well, the players come up thru a great system and are treated well by a quality organization, families settle in long enough to see there is more to that city than just being the butt of easy jokes from outsiders (sound familiar?), and the pieces needed from outside the organization become less and less over time. And they aren't as hard to get, because free agents look and see that despite being able to go anywhere, Zetterberg and Datsyuk want to be in Detroit. There must be a reason. The opportunity to win and a good environment for the players is exactly how this team can disappear from that list. BomberFan, Jaxon, kelownabomberfan and 3 others 6
Ducky Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 Myers has said nothing but good things about playing here. Other players will hear this and take notice...not to mention the best fans in the league.
Goalie Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 It's the media that's the biggest issue in canada
