I love when we get on the Pro/Con Kevin Smith discussion...probably 3 times at least within this thread alone. Ha ha ha ha. Smitty rules...tho JSB Pt 2 was a giant meh...

He has a couple okay films...I dont know what it is.  His bad stuff is sooo bad.  Like, he got his kids to write the dialogue.  And he seems really immature.  Even Chasing Amy, which is great, the dialogue is...silly in many ways.  Movie was made great by the performances I think.  The porno film was pretty good too.

The dialogus has ALWAYS been the best part of all Smitty movies. As a filmmaker, he's questionable at best, but as a writer, he's dynamite. His dialogue is extraordinary... As an example, the conversations in Clerks 2 (fantastic movie!) are exactly how my friends and I talk.

I like a few Kevin Smith movies, but his stuff is definitely overrated.  Whenever I see him speak, whether on youtube or whatever, he comes off as fake and over hyped.

Yeah I cant stand most of this stuff.  I kinda feel like his ideas have merit but its like if the average person submitted a spec script and a studio then hired a real writer to make it work, its like Smith's stuff is BEFORE the real writer was hired.  Although it does make me feel like if he can write movies, we can all write movies! 😉

But I dont begrudge anyone who enjoys it.  Art is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't think anyone is calling kevin Smith's movies art... but his older stuff anyway was at least good for laughs, which really is all I ask from a comedy.

I usually ask for a Ferrari from a comedy...but all it does is laugh at me. 😕

I found after Zack and Miri and after he lost weight and tried to become mr weed man he has been absolutely god awful.

The original movies were great though,  low brow humour  but they had good stories and some really good jokes.

I almost put this post in the TV thread.  So for me, 2020's most anticipated film is The Many Saints of Newark, the Sopranos prequel movie.

I was looking for some info today as there hasnt been much.  Some casting confirmations (Jon Berenthal as Johnny Boy, Tony's dad and Vera Fermiga as Livia which sounds awesome).  Anyway, young Tony is being played by Gandolfini's son Michael.  I missed this story about him last year but its a quick read but really insightful.  When I saw him in The Deuce I didnt think he looked much like his dad, but in these pics you really see it.

I sure hope this film is good and would love it to be spun off into a series.

Soprano's sequel is going to be great- but for me it's Villeneuve doing his dream project- I am SOOOOO looking forward to Dune...

This movie is pretty much as "arty" as it gets.

Parasite is interesting as its on several best of "in recent memory" lists. So im going with that as not only Picture but Director.

DiCaprio/Pryce get BA nomination , Pitts/Hopkins get SA. Have not seen Popes movies but I thought Pitt was in OUaTiH more then Leo.

Phoenix lock for actor.

Renee should win but Oscar so white so put Cynthia Erivo for Harriet in as a stealer.

How is Tom Hanks for a A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood a SA?

BSA a total toss up.

Best Makeup and Hairstyling : Joker but no Star Wars?

Best Visual Effects: The Irishman ROTFLMAO

So, this had been bothering me, too........then I remembered. The movie isn't actually about HIM......the movie is about this reporter for a magazine, that is doing a story on Mr Rogers. So the guy who is the reporter is the main character. Fred Rogers is just the subject of his piece, therefore Supporting Actor.

Oscars are a joke.

But yeah, the Irishman...watching that I couldn't even tell half the time if they were even using the de-aging CGI because they always looked old.  I kept thinking through the movie going...so...aren't they supposed to be de-aged?

I enjoy these FnF movies for what they are, but jeeze... This trailer is probably the most ridiculous thing they've done yet. Sure they're always over the top but cripes...
