Heard on the radio just before leaving work today Disney/Marvel is trying for the rights to Silver Surfer from Fox yet again.

Originally back in 2012 there were rumors Marvel offered Fox the rights to Daredevil in exchange for Silver Surfer and Galactus but fox denied those negotiations ever occurred and Daredevil ended up becoming a netflix series.

Fast forward to 2015 and Marvel gave Fox access to the properties of The Hellfire Club and Legion for soon to be released tv series, and there's a lot of speculation as to what Marvel got in return. Marvel has 3 untitled movies slated for May 2020, July 2020, and November 2020.  After The Fantastic Four bombed in 2015,  the scheduled sequel for June 2017 was shut down, and lot of people think one of the these 3 movies will be marvel's take at the FF. One of the others could be a Silver Surfer origins story and the 3rd....

IMO Marvel owns the rights to Namor the Sub-mariner, and with Aqua Man scheduled for 2018, i have a hunch Marvel will see how that does first,  then come back and blow it out of the water (no pun intended...kinda)

With XMen there was no need for FF imho.

true but,  the FF were the first team created by Lee and Kirby, I'm sure for sentimental reasons they would keep trying to do FF until they finally got it right. IMO they really just needed to tweak the originals. The reboot in 2015 was brutal and took a huge step backwards

Wasn't that already episode 1-3? I mean sure they had Anakin but really, those were Obi-wan movies

yeah you would think "prequel" was the young(er) Obi-Wan who was still a padawan to Qui-Gon Jinn at the start of and throughout Episode I. Unless it follows his training as a youngling at the Jedi Academy, not really sure where they would go with this movie as a precursor to the Skywalker saga.   IMO they would have been better off following General Kenobi during the Clone Wars, or some of what happened during the exile years on Tatooine., while watching over Luke.

I watched Star Wars Rebels with my kid, and his stay on Tatooine wasn't always uninterrupted.  I suppose they could have ran with that,  but that whole story revolved more around a different jedi

I figured it would be the time between episode 3 and 4.    How he settled in to Tattooine and befriended Uncle Owen & co.

Not sure how exciting of a movie that would make.

well if they followed the star wars rebel story this is one story they could  do during his time on tatooine, but ill put in spoiler function just in case;

Spoiler

During the show a kid with the force, Ezra Bridger becomes a surviving jedi's padawan after he comes across one of  Obi-Wan's Jedi holocron that was sent out to any surviving Jedi after the order 66 telling them to seek refuge. We learn Darth Maul didn't die, but is missing his lower half,  that he gets  mechanical replaced.  Ezra meets Maul on Korriban (Planet of the Sith) and the 2 of them go through a Sith temple to obtain a Sith holocron - apparently when a sith and jedi holocron are put together it opens up a view into the future.  Maul wants the info to find a way to destroy the Emperor/Palpatine, who he feels betrayed him (basically tosses him to the curb in favor of a promising new prize in Anakin Skywalker) and it shows him an image of a world with 2 suns and a child. So Maul goes to Tatooine and ends up fighting Obi-Wan again

but again, this story isn't really an Obi-Wan centered story,  it just happens to cross his path

Obi-wan sitting in his shack chasing sand people off his lawn?

Even If this is what they did, they would still set box office records.

The long held belief is it would be between Revenge and A New Hope.  And there is a lot to explore since we know nothing other then Obi Wan "watched over" Luke and apparently Uncle Owen became less supportive of that.

There was speculation they held off doing this film for a story line reason.  ie. events in the new trilogy would reference something that would later be picked up in an Obi Wan film.  You had the Obi Wan voice cameo in The Force Awakens, for example, hinting at possibly something more.

Its entirely possible Obi Wan had some amazing adventures off-world before A New Hope.  They've wanted to do Boba Fett as well, and *could* tie that in with this.  I would think they really want to get Vader in another film in a larger way.  Unfortunately, I would guess we cant have Vader vs Obi Wan given their dialogue in A New Hope.  Although if I recall, there was nothing on-screen to explain that Obi Wan knew Vader was Anakin...but he clearly did and kept it from Luke, so perhaps they have another confrontation.

Ewen has long maintained he'd love to do it which also makes me think there is a reason it wasnt an originally announced film.

that reboot was absolute trash.  the girlfriend is a bit of a comic book geek and she hadn't seen it so I told her, "its horrible.. like, unwatchable" but she, like myself, like to pass our own judgement on things... and she concurred.  horrible attempt to make something that was already pretty good, better.    IF they decide to reboot it yet again, I hope its waaaaaay more like the original then this last failure.

I believe the first 2 movies had help from stan lee in some capacity, the 2015 reboot was all fox. If they do ever try it again I hope it's 100% marvel doing it, i'm sure they would do it a lot more justice sticking to it's roots then trying to clobber a round peg into a square hole hoping there's magically going to be box office $ because of the name on the poster instead of a good story and decent CGI

If Obi-Wan is the grandfather of Rey, it could be that they don't want to do the movie until they flesh out Rey's lineage, as the Obi-Wan movie may show him having relations with some woman which leads to the lady having Rey's mom/dad.

Just a thought.

Oh...and I want Michael Fassbender to be Bond.  I hate Craig.

Craig grew on me.  My original thought was that I liked Casino Royale but that the character Craig played wasnt James Bond.  But I like him.  Unfortunately, his first outting was the best of his films.

There is still that idea out there that they will never do where they reveal that "James Bond" is a code name and all the previous actors exist in continuity.  Get them all to star (or cameo) in an epic film when some villain finds out where they end up being sent to in retirement and begins killing them off.

Bond franchise is not Marvel.......

I like Fassbender, too, and that is an interesting name. I kinda liked the idea of Hiddleston, but apparently the guy is a total ****** and the Broccoli's didn't like him and said "nope"....

The one criticism Ive seen of Hiddelston as Bond is that he's kinda slight in physical appearance but he certainly looks more like the Brosnan style of suave Bond.  He'd also make a PERFECT Data if they recast the role for a Star Trek TNG film.

I wouldnt mind them keeping Craig for awhile and make his aging part of the story arc.  I dont really feel like they need to get cute with Bond by seeking out a female or minority actor.  Although they absolutely could create a female 00 agent and spin her off.

Every time I see Fassbender, I think Bond.  To me they're just wasting a great choice by not grabbing him now.  Pretty soon he's going to get too old and they'll have wasted using him.

Unless they've already offered it to him and he's turned it down.  Which would suck.

yea exactly.   you need to have the writer and creator's input into something like this IMO or else you get what fox put out.  Even if its not Stan Lee directly inspiring it, having the comic company who built them to what they have become needs to be involved.

Went and saw The Hitman's Bodyguard this afternoon. Probably best movie i've seen in quite some time. Reynolds and Sam Jackson have an amazing chemistry. Tons of laughs, action and a decent story. I'd be very disappointed if they don't take a stab at a sequel to this. I'd highly recommend checking it out.
