TrueBlue Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announced the club has acquired International defensive back Ryan Mouton from the Stampeders, in exchange for International offensive lineman Zebrie Sanders. Mouton (5-9, 185, Hawaii, September 23, 1986 in Houston, Texas) signed with Calgary as a free agent in February, after originally joining the Stamps on Oct. 13, 2014. Mouton was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the third round (94th overall) of the 2009 National Football League draft. He played 36 games over three seasons for the Titans. He then spent time with Washington before being released in April of 2014. Both players participated in mini camp’s last month with their former teams. The Blue Bombers also today announced the release of International linebacker TraShaun Nixon.
M.O.A.B. Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Another DB/KR type guy. I thought I read somewhere that Nixon was one of the few that impressed in the mini-camp?
Mike Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Rodney Lamar and Khalil Bass, the herd is pretty thinned out by now. I bet we lock up at least one more MLB candidate before camp though.

Atomic Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Rodney Lamar and Khalil Bass, the herd is pretty thinned out by now. I bet we lock up at least one more MLB candidate before camp though. More likely WILL candidates. Hurl is going to be the starting middle linebacker, no doubt in my mind about that one. Maybe releasing Nixon makes room for Marcus Ball..

Hurl, Briggs and Blair Smith maybe.
Booch Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Hurl will not be the MLB and pretty certain isn't even in any consideration as such. Not sure why people keep thinking and saying that Pete Catan's Ghost, Bigblue204 and DR. CFL 3
Mike Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 We didn't dedicate over 10% of our mini camp roster to finding middle linebacker candidates just to start Hurl there. Pete Catan's Ghost, Bigblue204, blitzmore and 1 other 4
gbill2004 Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Ya, I'm pretty sure Hurl will get one of the outside LB spots, not MLB. On this trade, the fact that we're trading prospects with a team like Calgary, tells me that our scouting staff is doing their job. Mark F 1
TBURGESS Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 I thought our DB's were the strength of our defense last year. Based on the number of new ones being brought in though, I'd say that Hall is looking for something different than Etch in his DB's.
Jpan85 Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Pretty sure they are looking for the SAM spot and maybe to upgrade Bruce Johnson's spot.
Jacquie Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Considering the number of LBs we have on the roster I agree with Jpan85 that some will be looked at for the SAM spot.
Jpan85 Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Pretty good to get a asset for a guy you just signed.
Mike Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 There are a good amount of guys like Demetrius Wright who are listed as DBs who are definitely going out for the SAM spot. Gabe Lynn is another off the top of my head.
Atomic Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 We'll see. Doesn't make any sense to me to start Sam Hurl at WILL. James 1
Noeller Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 We'll see. Doesn't make any sense to me to start Sam Hurl at WILL. Well, you'd better let MOS know, 'cause that guy doesn't know a damn thing about NIs starting at the MLB spot........... Mark F and billfrank 2
Atomic Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 We'll see. Doesn't make any sense to me to start Sam Hurl at WILL.Well, you'd better let MOS know, 'cause that guy doesn't know a damn thing about NIs starting at the MLB spot........... Ya I know, real funny eh? Even funnier that both he and Kyle Walters have said in the past month that Sam Hurl is ready to be a starting middle linebacker on TSN 1290. Like I said, we'll see. Adrenaline_x, SPuDS and James 3
TBURGESS Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 I've seen both play and Hurl is no Mike O'Shea. In fact, he's not even close.

The Blue Bombers also today announced the release of International linebacker TraShaun Nixon. I was tempted to say that the Bombers are going to feel sheepish about this transaction, but I am puzzled. I didn't think the Stamps needed Import help on their O-line and I thought we were pretty happy with the DB's we had already signed. Oh well....
Atomic Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 The Stamps lost their left tackle to us in the off season so they are looking for a new one. They still have Edwin Harrison but he has a lot to prove and Huff isn't one to hand starting spots to people. Expect a lot of competition for their left tackle spot.
