TC Report - Day Five

Did anyone see the Lirim interview? Someone from the media asked him what his thoughts are on his "new" ST Coordinator? Lirim looks at him with a confused look and says "Pat Tracy? He was here last year". The media guy then blames his incompetence on the fact that media aren't allowed to talk to Coordinators.

Our media is embarrassing. Holy hell.

I'm comfortable putting a twenty down it was Weicek.

I couldn't see who asked the question, but it sounded like Bauming, which would surprise me because he's usually on the ball. But could have been someone else too.

Sonofa...great. Well June's as good a month as any to ration diapers. Let the baby dookie on the lawn.

I watched the interview. The question comes at around the 4 minute mark. Talk about stupid. And trying to cover it with the whole excuse that they aren't allowed to talk to co-ordinators. Just pathetic. Shame on whoever that clown is.

If he's going to try and flip blame for his screw-up on the Bombers, why not make a crack that he's not used to having learn the names of more than 7 coaches.

I asked Bauming about it on Twitter and it was him.

I sure hope he thanked you after you asked that question.

Made it out for a couple hours today and just got some time to post.  Mostly special teams stuff today and even that was almost all instructional as opposed to live action.  I tried to watch a bit more of the o-line and d-line but was sucked into watching some of the skill guys as well.

 

O-Line:

- I thought that other than one bad play where Gibson beat him, Devin Tyler looked really solid at LT.  He's getting a lot of reps there with Bryant out and looks to be making the most of them.  Not sure how he fits and whether his strong play can continue on the right side but he was the strongest of the bunch today at import tackle in my opinion.  Didn't pull particularly well on a couple run plays but that's a tough assignment and not uncommon to see.  He did chip and get to the second level really well when not pulling during the scrimmage.

- Jace Daniels was a little up and down but probably more up.  He was solid in the one on ones but just ok in the scrimmage.  Failed to pass off his block to the guard on a stunt where Unamba would have absolutely murdered Josh Portis off the edge.  He was in a bit of a tough spot with a blitz coming and the halfback leaking out early but still would have resulted in a big play for the D.

- Lewis looks really overmatched out there from my point of view.  Sammy Brown had his way with him in the one on ones and he just doesn't look like he moves well enough to match any speed off the edge.  Just a couple practices so it could just be a couple bad days from him but he looks to be in tough.

- No Dile or Bryant today.

- Didn't get to see as many reps from Chungh as I would have liked.  To be clear, this had nothing to do with him or his play, I just got distracted for his one on one reps and it's tough to see whats going on in the interior of the o-line during the scrimmage.  From what I did see he seemed solid.  No blown assignments or blocks.

- Goosen struggled quite a bit in one on ones today.  Looked ok in the scrimmage but Jake Thomas blew him back into the pocket on multiple reps in 1 on 1's.

- Griffiths was actually a pleasant surprise.  I would still be a little surprised to see him make it through the cuts but he was stronger than Everrett today IMO and held his own against some of the big boys on the inside.

- Best Battle of the day for my money was seeing Greaves and Turner go at it.  They had 3 straight reps against eachother in one on ones.  Greaves took 2 of 3 and looked good in the scrimmage.  Moved well and is solid in his drops.  Not as nasty as I would like but pretty steady out there.

- tough to see Picard in the middle of the line but he looked fine in one on ones.  Might not have the same conditioning as some of the young bucks but that's nitpicking

 

D-Line:

- Guys that stood out to me were Gibson and Brown on the outside and Thomas and Turner on the inside.

- Gibson typically won with speed.  good jump off the ball and turns the corner real well if he has an edge.

- Brown won a couple different ways and set the edge well in the run game.  Absolutely abused Corey Lewis in a couple reps during one on ones.

- Thomas is a guy who people always seem down on here.  I really don't understand why.  This guy has a motor as good as anyone on our D-Line, national or international.  His effort level and persistence to the ball is phenomenal.  He uses his leverage well and his jump off the ball might not be at the level of Turner but it could be a heck of a lot worse.  He struggles to disengage, in the run game especially, but other than that he is solid.  As far as I am concerned he is an absolute lock to make the team and I am fine with him as a rotational guy on the inside.

- Turner was creating havoc as per normal.  Showed really good hands and the quickness which has made him a staple on our team.

- Collins also looked good in his one on ones.  Adequate quickness for a big guy

 

Other things or guys i noticed:

- a little tough to judge without knowing assignments but I liked the work of Allen out there.  was better than I expected in coverage and solid vs the run.

- One of the stars of the day had to be Waggoner.  Was flying around out there from the WIL linebacker spot.  Moves well and showed some physicality in laying out a back in the running game.

- Randle got more time with the ones at SAM.  does not look out of place at all and was helping guys get lined up all day.

- Johnny Adams got more of a look at halfback today.  Didn't look awful but if the reports from earlier in camp are accurate, I would be surprised to see him make a permanent move inside.

- Sherman was in at safety for a lot of the day.  Morgan spent some time there as well.  Sherman was vocal back there and was in good spots for most of what I saw.

- Shaq Richardson was a guy lots have been talking about.  watched him specifically on a couple reps and he the part out there today. 

- Once again very impressed with Bastien.  Runs well and made some real solid grabs in traffic.  Would seem crazy going into camp but if he can play well on ST and get on the opening day roster he could push for starting reps as the year progresses.  The tools are there.

- Darvin Adams made a hell of a catch in traffic.  He continues to make plays out there.

- Mike Willie had a much better day today from my point of view.  Probably the play of the day coming down with a jump ball and keeping his feet in for a TD.  Also got into a bit of a pushing match with Warden after sealing him out on a run play.  It was nothing serious but good to see him being physical and good on Warden for not backing down after Willie continued after the whistle a bit.

- I don't think anyone expects Hajrullahu to be beaten out but that Santella has got a hell of a leg on him.  Consistently better than Lirim punting the ball and on kickoffs.  Could push his way into a spot as a DI punter and kickoff specialist.  Would be surprising but with the extra DI you never know

 

 

Back to work for me tomorrow.  If anyone can get out there and post what they see that would be greatly appreciated.  Go Blue!

 

 

Edit:  Two things I forgot:

- Bucknor was really good today.  made a couple nice reads and broke up a few passes

- Adams did most of his work from the slot.  They've been moving receivers around a fair bit but that's 2 days in a row where he has made big plays from the slot.  Will be interesting to see where he lines up in the games

Really hope that scout from the NY Jets that was there today is on the next flight back to New York as soon as possible. Don't steal our players! 

 

 

Can't take them unless we release them. By the time our season ends this guy will have viewed another 1000 guys. Unless, we have someone who is going to be a pending FA that they absolutely love, I'm not sure much will come from his visit. It will do more good for the Bombers than it will do harm.

 

I admit I don't really know the finer points of a situation like this, but I'm curious as to why you think it will do good for the Bombers? Your post has made me calm down though so I have to thank you for that.

 

 

Americans often don't want to give up on their NFL dream, and view signing in the CFL as the end of it.  If Walters can say we had scouts from 30 of the 32 NFL teams at practises last year, then point to a guy like Ian Wild or Enoch Muamba, that can be all it takes for a reluctant neg-lister to look at the Bombers as his path to the NFL rather than away from it.

There will be no more low-scoring defensive battles. It's like 7-7 aerial. Scores will be 99-86 for the Bombers. QBs were throwing completions today they often failed to execute last year. That's because the defenders were hamstrung. All the receiver needs is one step on the defender and its over. There will be lots of short yardage dives from the 1 yard line after illegal contact calls, I'd expect, and much high-fivin' in the stands. The game is going to change. Big time. Not saying is better or worse. But it'll be different.

If it gets to that point teams are just going to send 6 or 7 at the QB and have their DB's maul the receivers off the line to slow them down so they can rock the QB. That would be a disaster for the league IMO. I hope it doesn't take a rash of major QB injuries to get them to come to their senses.

... Hope this guy makes it in some capacity (probably just for the name) although not at the expense of a better player. He is truly a special athlete and that's probably why the Bombers are going to give him some time.
