According to a CFL source, the Blue and Gold have agreed to terms with pivot Dominique Davis, who was in training camp with the Calgary Stampeders this month.

Winnipeg already has four quarterbacks under contract: Drew Willy, Brian Brohm and Robert Marve are active for Saturday?s season opener against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Josh Portis is on the one game injured list but healthy enough to play.

Davis, who is 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, completed nine of 10 attempts for 75 yards and a touchdown in Calgary?s first pre-season game. He also had three carries for 11 yards.

The 25-year-old played at Boston College, Fort Scott Community College and East Carolina before signing with the Atlanta Falcons and spending two years in the NFL. He tried to latch on with the Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts last season but didn?t last long with either club.

Dominique Davis

East Carolina

Ht. 6-3 Wt. 215

Strengths: Davis has tremendous accuracy in the short to middle range throws. He’s an above average athlete that can pose a dual threat to defenses. He possesses a nice, compact throwing motion and is capable of getting the ball out quickly. Has NFL bloodlines as his brother is former Bears tight end Desmond Clark.

Weaknesses: Davis lacks the arm strength to fit balls into tight spots and doesn’t throw with the necessary velocity to throw the deep out in tight coverage in the NFL. His deep ball has a tendency to float and tries to fit balls into tight windows. His decision-making is questionable at times and struggled in big games throughout his career at ECU. His mechanics and footwork need improvement to play in the NFL. He regresses from a mechanics standpoint under pressure which leads to mistakes with the ball.

Bottom Line: Davis will need a lot of work to be successful in the NFL. He is not likely to be much more than a career backup but could be worth a look late in the draft.

Doesn't sound super impressive but who knows, maybe they're bringing him in for a cup of coffee and next year.  When a jump ball is featured in your highlight package, you don't have much of a highlight package.

Dominique Davis

School: East Carolina

Position: QB

Bio: Boston College transfer who started at East Carolina the past two seasons. All-conference choice as a junior. Totals last year included 67.6%/3225 yards/25 TDs/19 interceptions after he had 64.5%/3167/37/16 as a junior.

Positive: Athletic quarterback with solid physical skills. Patient in the pocket, buys time for receivers and gets rid the ball with a flick of his wrist. Elusive, scrambles away from the rush and easily gets outside the pocket to make the throw on the move. Knows where his receivers are on the field, effectively commands the offense and possesses a live arm. Displays good speed on throws and gets the deep pass downfield with good velocity.

Negative: Slow to move his eyes off the primary target and telegraphs passes. Holds the ball too long in the pocket. Steps out of throws or often releases the ball off his back foot. Puts passes up for grabs.

Analysis: Davis is a raw prospect who is still rough around the edges in all aspects of his game. His arm strength ability and the ability to make all the throws will get Davis consideration for a practice squad.

Hopefully this means they are moving a QB for something (likely not much). He's an athletic QB, having him, Marve and Portis seems redundant. They all bring the same skill set to the table I think.

League helping Montreal out.

which is good if that's what's happening.

League helping Montreal?

It doesn't do the league any good to have Montreal without a quarterback.. .….

blah blah ….

So you feel the league mandates that a team trade one of their QBs to the Als?

Not quite the QB DD I was looking for.

Two possibilities:

We're moving a QB (unlikely - when has anybody traded for one of our QBs?)

Or, more likely, the Bombers were not satisfied with their QB stable and are keeping their eyes downfield for a real prospect.

Either way, I'm glad the Bombers are still looking.
