I can understand a revamped defense will take a little time to gel, I  really do

But is there a structural problem, one that can't "gel"?

So far, Hurl doesn't seem to understand the offensive schemes and is getting fooled too often. The MLB is the defense's general, its strategist and counter strategist. When you can't read a scheme .... anticipate a counter or misdirection play, show some instincts for the game, you can't be the general even if you are especially gifted...

Someone is having a love affair with Hurl. He was given the job; no one else had a legit chance at it. I can't see what Hurl has done to earn the MLB job - - has any poster seen him show signs of brilliance and future potential that we should be waiting for? Is he physically gifted? Are the coaches having a collective brain cramp? Is it something else?

Thr defensive line is a different story, veterans on the downside of their careers. Last year we stood pat under Kuale's leadership. No attempt to go on a talent search for our back 7 ... we just had to
"gel" a year ago this time too ... anyone see a parallel brain cramp from our brain trust?

Comb the league's taxi squads ... other teams have talent in waiting, players with potential that are starting to learn the CFL ... if there is genuinely no one there, then start an airlift of MLB's and pass rushing specialists because there is a ton of talent south of the border, its not a myth.

We need the will to go find it, not gel to soften things up

Without really knowing who is supposed to do what on any given play I think it's hard to say. Communication goes a long way and most these guys are on their 3rd DC in 3 years.

I think Hurl gets too much hate. I don't think he's been very good this season, but I don't think he's nearly the problem others do I guess. His job is a lot harder too with DTs that aren't able to move linemen around.

The dbs looked miles better last game. Id say they are geling . And with the huge rule shake up, no ones secondary is dominant imop.

The front 7 havent looked worse but they are still to in efective against the run and getting pressure. I strongly believe in the talent we have on the Dline. I think we are doing some thing wrong in scheme that is messing it up.

I don't expect miracles from Hurl, just would like to see him actually lay the lumber to someone like a MLB'er is supposed to do. Three games in and I haven't seen him deliver a bone crusher to anyone in the middle.

I think our D line may be getting asked to muck it up and hold their lanes more than rush the QB as to make things easier on our MLB

At the very least we seem to be funneling to him but ive seen him sit back in spot and let runners come to his area far too much. What i wouldnt give to have henoc back shooting gaps and blowing ball carriers up again.

Yeah I don't know what to do with Hurl. The guy is good enough to fit into rotation.... that's about it. He simply is not a starting MLB IMO. Problem is I don't think he's nearly athletic enough to be effective at WLB either. I think we just need to go all import at linebacker and start Bucknor and Westerman full time.

Just roll with 7 Canadians. Unless we can get a guy like Henoc in the middle, its harming us more than helping us to start a canuck like Hurl there.

He's Canadian... so because he's not Henoc, he must not be any good... but I agree that he would be better served as a rotational player... he hasn't been great this year, but I also don't think he's been particularly terrible either...

I agree. I'm not sure he's doing anything to be spat on for, but he certainly isn't doing anything to be praised either. He needs to be a back up. Much like Labbe, he's a solid player but not a starter. Hopefully we can bring someone in who can get the job done.

Right now I see our mlb position as a weakness and teams will continue to exploit it.. Will Hurl be given a chance to develop in the position??? Tough call...I would have hoped by now we'd have someone else waiting in the wings as a 'just in case' BUT that doesn't seem to be the situation. Coaches are on the spot with this one.

Maybe it's just me but are teams really running up the middle on us ? Maybe once or twice a game but I think most runs are to the outside.

They are running anywhere they want on us ... but you are right: off tackle seems more frequent than up the gut

Anyone know why Rennie Curran still hasn't signed with anyone yet?

After the first game I thought they have done a lot better against the run.

They certainly have.  Anyone else like the 5 Dlineman front they put out on rushing downs in the second half?  Sticking Harlan in between Anderson and Turner.

More than 50% of the runs (that I recall) have been to the outside so far this season.  Opposition RBs coming at us between the guard and center has been less than usual.

That's cuz for the most part the runs have been to the outside and not up the gut

That's irrelevant. Unless it's a passing play, the RB is his responsibility.
