bb1 Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Reading the forums they are picking apart Smith and pinning for Willy.Kinda 50-50 whether they think Smith can be good or not.Good to see the Riders feeling our pain of the past in not having a quality Qb.
SPuDS Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 The reason we are so set at QB is because they let Willy walk. He was stuck behind Durrant sure but he was leagues ahead of the guys behind him (even tho many claimed sunseri and the other guy were much better).. Their gaffe has been our benefit and I can't be happier lol. For waaaaay too long the shoe has been on the other foot. I know our depth is still paper thin but still feels very good to know our starter IS starter material and tough as nails to boot..
Jacquie Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 They didn't let him walk. He was going to be a free agent and had made it clear he wasn't going to re-sign because he wanted to be a starter. Sorry but that "they let him walk" stuff is a pet peeve because we all know you can't force someone to sign and some players will leave no matter what you offer them. Hopefully the people who were spewing the "he was our third choice" crap will shut up and just be thankful we have him locked up for a while. TBURGESS, Logan007, AtlanticRiderFan and 10 others 13

Same deal applies as rider fans attempted to slight him as much as possible once we had signed him.. It was a perfect storm situation for us as they were not in a position to spend starter money to him and Durrant..
iso_55 Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Let's just remember that we're one hit... one injury away from Brian Brohm being our starter. The way O'Shea thinks that scares the hell out of me.

Let's hope that doesn't occur but even if it did, Brohm would be yanked after he skips a few. and throws a couple to the opposition, then the real no 2 will take over...Marvelous Marve..

Regina didn't let Willy walk. Willy was our 3rd choice. We'd already tried and failed to get both Collaros and Burris. He's doing great. Nothing the matter with him being our 3rd choice. Funny that you can see when others massage the facts, but you can't see it in yourself. Atomic 1
JohnnyOnTheSpot Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Financially they had to choose Durant or Willy. You can't pay two starter money for long.

MOS has said that Brohm works within the system & Marve doesn't. Therefore Marve doesn't have the trust of the coaches so he sits.

If Burris came, it was gonna be Burris with Willy as back up last year. That's been in the paper a lot. McManus was a huge DW fan and they were always going to bring him in no matter what. If he was our obvious 1st choice, there'd be no reason to even give Burris an offer nor to give Collaros an offer that's rumoured to be higher than the one he accepted in Hamilton.

JuranBoldenRules Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 How did the Riders not let Willy walk? They chose to keep Durant as their starter and not give Willy the money or opportunity. They didn't try to keep him. That's letting him walk IMO, similar to how the Bombers let a guy like Geroy Simon "walk." SPuDS and Floyd 2

They traded us his rights before free agency for jade ettienne. Getting something for a player before losing them to free agency is actually the exact opposite of letting him walk. blitzmore, Yourface, Goalie and 1 other 4
rebusrankin Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Geroy went to the NFL, he didn't walk. Unless you count Taman not resigning him when he returned and oh cutting Troy Mills or Eric Blount.
