iso_55 Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 Over on Our Bombers a poster says a source close to him claims that CJOB will be selling the Blue Bomber radio rights to 1290TSN. That Bob Irving has been offered PBP but turned it down & will retire immediately. Supposedly he claims a news conference will be called today at 2pm with the announcement. I'm just passing the info on here because if true, it's a shocker.
holoman Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 At first I would call BS, however given the recent layoffs, it wouldn't totally shock me
comedygeek Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 Absolutely crazy if it shifts mid-season. Not at all surprised if it happens at the end of the season (which could still be announced soon).
gbill2004 Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 This is something I'd like to see. CJOB is stale and Bob Irving, while he is a legend, is now past his best before date. Bauming and the TSN 1290 crew would do a much better job. JayBallz 1
the watcher Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 68 is slowly sinking into obscurity. I always feel it is one long ad interspersed with bits of info. While I'd be suprised if this rumor was true I'd enjoy the switch.
JohnnyOnTheSpot Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 I hope it doesn't change the way the TSN guys can express their opinion but I'm afraid it will. Right now if they think Brohm sucks they can say it, and they do. Mark F 1
Geebrr Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 I hope it doesn't change the way the TSN guys can express their opinion but I'm afraid it will. Right now if they think Brohm sucks they can say it, and they do.They still rip the Jets so I wouldn't worry about that, if this rumour was true, which I do not believe it is.Was there not some **** disturbing dummy who posted the same thing here a couple of months ago? Followed shortly by the ban hammer?
Jpan85 Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 If it's true. What are they going to do when there is a Jets game and a Bombers game at the same time. I know which one is not going to be on the radio.

LeBird Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 I would not surprise me at all. I use to like the station but some of the pain they have brought upon themselves. I use to watch the game on TSN and listen to Irvin on the radio on away games. Now they don't even try to be within reason on the sync. As for the Coach's show, it's really only a program of commercials interrupted by a few short calls. Just like when the CBC lost a whack of funding professional sports was one of the first things to go.
Mark F Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 I don't believe it. If the station is staying on the air, (it will) and if they make money from the bombers rights, they'll keep them. ancillary question are the Bombers happy with the CJOB coverage? the cheapness of not taking Doug Brown to away games annoys me. that's tight. I'm not interested in hearing what a retired Olineman in another city has to say about the Bombers. No doubt things are changing in radio and tv. Tracker, wbbfan and the watcher 3
Goalie Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 I don't believe it either. You'd think someone in the media would mention this by now. 2 pm on a Sunday of a long weekend?
Jpan85 Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 Brown takes shots at the team all the time FrostyWinnipeg and Mark F 2
Fatty Liver Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 Hard to believe something like this would happen mid-season, when sponsorship deals have been arranged to cover the entire season. Makes no sense.
Jacquie Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 The person who started that thread at OB also has a thread 100% guaranteeing that the Bombers are going to the royal blue jerseys next season based on inside information. Sounds like Tuscaloosa Blue is using a different screen name while posting at OB. B-F-F-C, SPuDS and voodoochylde 3
iso_55 Posted August 2, 2015 Author Report Posted August 2, 2015 I'm thinking false alarm as well. But I just wanted to bring to everyone's attention here in case it did happen.
GCn20 Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 This is pure Tuscaloosa Blue garbage being spewed. What shocked me the most in this thread is that people are still posting at OB. Haven't been there in over a year and at that time there was literally zero activity in the last month. Good on Colin for paying attention to it and trying to revive it. The more Bomber forums the better. Each one provides a different kind of forum experience. Just too bad Tuscaloosa found a new home. The inner conspiracist in me thinks he is MIgs just trying to mess around with Bomber fans. Doubt it's true, but his trolling is sure similar in style. Goalie 1
bluto Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 thought we'd killed that evil place off... don't make me come back over there, Colin... lol jk, i wouldn't waste my time in that backwater hole
Noeller Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 Lol...the one thing they do that makes them money. Ya...lets get rid of it.... basslicker 1
iso_55 Posted August 3, 2015 Author Report Posted August 3, 2015 I take it that means you don't like this?? IC Khari 1
The Unknown Poster Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 I assume Garth signed a great deal in favour of the Bombers before he went there so you never know, it might not be the most favourable deal for the club. If they want to gut their sports department but can't because of their commitment to the Bonbers.... I still can't see them "selling" the rights at all. I assume TSN would be interested upon expiry of the contract though.
DR. CFL Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 Gee toss up who would I rather not listen to Brown or Westwood.
basslicker Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 Gee toss up who would I rather not listen to Brown or Westwood.I'd rather hear rod black than Westwood. So brown is an easy choice. walby makes tsn's pre game listenable.
