kelownabomberfan Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Bombers have likely paid substantial bonuses to Moore, Bryant, Picard, Willy, Brohm, Denmark, Hurl... hopefully there's space left, Bryant and Heenan as bookends would be crazy 4 Nationals on the O-line gives us so much more flexibility.
mbrg Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Once he's healthy he may get a chance to re-sign with the Colts, and if not, he has 31 other teams to talk to. That opportunity is gone as soon as he signs with a CFL team. In 6 weeks the season is 2/3 done - prorated that puts $80k at most into his bank account and closes the door on the NFL for another few years. Even if he doesn't get a sniff in the next few weeks, he will likely being giving some consideration to sitting out 2015 entirely, get totally back to 100%, and starting the NFL process again in December. But to answer the question, yes, we should give his agent a call, cause you never know. True enough that there may be more NFL interest in him. Although, not a lot was shown in the offseason except by the Colts, who if he were in their future plans would have just kept him. Almost zero chance he goes back to the Colts. They waived him, they didn't have to waive him. He's done there....and as I stated, they were the only NFL suitors for him in the offseason. Heenan may not sign a contract in the next month with a CFL club, but if that phone doesn't ring by then, I would guess he will be happy to resume his CFL career as probably the highest paid O Lineman in the league. It's a longshot, it was always a longshot, but our perspective on his chances may not be the shared by him. He might be choosing to believe in himself.
rebusrankin Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 I wonder how much $$ each team left for situations such as this?
Jesse Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 I doubt he signs anywhere until he's close to playing. In the meantime he will rehab and have his agent scouring the NFL for additional opportunities.
DR. CFL Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 There is no longer an option year in contracts, so a 2015 year contracted player becomes a FA in Feb.
Jpan85 Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Heenan will only settle for being the top paid tackle in the league. Riders he say he will go there no matter what is not true he will follow the money.
iso_55 Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Heenan never struck me as a guy who's blinded by loyalty to play for the Riders even though he's from Saskatchewan. He could sign elsewhere if there is a bidding war.
DR. CFL Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Not sure why his loyalty is in question one way or another? Leaving the CFL for an opportunity to make a minimum of 500K seems to be a logical decision. One only need to ask LaBatte about loyalty to the homeland.
iso_55 Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Players from Saslkatchewan are like Newfies. Newfies love The Rock. Sask players all want to play in Saskatchewan.
M.O.A.B. Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Players from Saslkatchewan are like Newfies. Newfies love The Rock. Sask players all want to play in Saskatchewan. I wonder why. Maybe they dont want to leave their cousins?
Tracker Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Cut Nic(ked) Moore and use the money to land Heenan. Winnipeg is only 5 1/2 hrs by car from Regina.
gbill2004 Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Cut Nic(ked) Moore and use the money to land Heenan. Winnipeg is only 5 1/2 hrs by car from Regina.Moore got a big chunk of his salary in form of a signing bonus in 2014. He's not going anywhere this year. Greaves is the guy I could see gone if we somehow landed Heenan.
LeBird Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Cut Nic(ked) Moore and use the money to land Heenan. Winnipeg is only 5 1/2 hrs by car from Regina. Or half that before you get to meet your first cousins.
James Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Greaves and Hurl would cover Henan salary. Then we could move Bass to Mac and play a guy like Littlejohn at WILL... or sign Wild Obviously won't happen though
rebusrankin Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 I think Heenan might wait until 2016. However, yep, sign him and cut Greaves and whoever else to make it so.
gbill2004 Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 I think Heenan might wait until 2016. However, yep, sign him and cut Greaves and whoever else to make it so. Greaves is making $145k this season. Cutting him now would free up about $100k, which would cover all of Heenan's pro rated salary this year, assuming he'd spend 6 games on the IR, which doesn't count towards the cap. Cutting Greaves = Heenan this season, if Walters can sign him. Tracker 1
B-F-F-C Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 If Heenan returns to the CFL. I think he signs with the Stamps. They desperately need help along the O-line and have a ton of cap room available with everyone they have on the 6 game IR. That's my 0.02 cents.

rebusrankin Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Good call on the Stamps. Thing is how much $ did guys like Cornish get upfront?

That would be cool with me...then we could sneak in and grab Lemon while they're busy with HeMan..

rebusrankin Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Heenan over Lemon for sure, all day everyday

Didn't that article yesterday say the Stamps have no interest in Lemon? @SUNMitchell - Edge rusher Shawn Lemon has interest from Blue #Bombers, BC Lions but still waiting on NFL. No serious offer from Stamps, per sources. #CFL Noeller 1
Chaosmonkey Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Heenan over Lemon for sure, all day everyday Wouldn't that be a party.
