The Unknown Poster Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 So 50,000 Winnipeggers were signed up on this site. Many government and military email addresses were used. Anyone want to fess up to being a member?
FrostyWinnipeg Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 I get no joy from the hack. It's a security problem.
The Unknown Poster Posted August 20, 2015 Author Report Posted August 20, 2015 People care, I guess, for a few reasons. It's salacious. its sexual and sex sells. And people are generally mistrustful. But I agree, I think the bigger issue is the hack. I think the theft of personal information and public release is worse than the service the website provides. The hackers claim to be doing it for some morally just purpose but the thought is, this is an inside job from a disgruntled former employee. I mean, if you're going to target nasty websites, why is the dirty still online?
Rich Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 Hacking and all that aside, but ... who is foolish enough to use their work email address to signup for something like this? Atomic, Noeller and rebusrankin 3
FrostyWinnipeg Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 "Ashley Madison does not send verification emails, meaning the accounts might not belong to actual users of the site and could simply be the work of disgruntled tricksters." - CP
The Unknown Poster Posted August 20, 2015 Author Report Posted August 20, 2015 "Ashley Madison does not send verification emails, meaning the accounts might not belong to actual users of the site and could simply be the work of disgruntled tricksters." - CP If I understand that, they mean I could sign up using YOUR email address. Hmmm. if thats true, its another strike against Ashley Madison for NOT sending verification emails. I guess the argument to using your legitimate email address is if you're actually "buying" an account, you're providing your real credit card number so why not. Or people are signing up "in the moment" and dont go to the trouble of creating a "fake" email address for this one thing. Or they have a secure email address (meaning their spouse doesnt have access) so what does it matter if they use their real one. And I'd suspect that for the people using work email its either their only email address or they figure its safer in that their spouse will never access it. I know several people who share one email address between spouses or who have liberal access to each other's email.

There is only about a billion places out there you can get a free "new" email address. Surely most people have heard of gmail or hotmail or yahoo mail.

But I just think that might be part of the reason. Especially if you travel and have your work computer and/or phone with you. You can also get a throw-away credit card too. but people are stupid. The first celebrity outed? Josh Duggar.
Brandon Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 So 50,000 Winnipeggers were signed up on this site. Many government and military email addresses were used. Anyone want to fess up to being a member? Ashley Madison had claimed 50% split between male and female users. Hackers discovered that if you remove all the fake accounts that it was really 95% male. I would bet that Winnipeg would probably be very small probably under 10 000. Most of the govt addresses were proven fake.

Like, why keep a paid account if you're not having any success.... Or were the other 5% just super whores or something? or were a significant number of the 95% gay? Before I was with my current gf, there wasnt really these easy dating/hook up apps. I think Hot or Not was the thing back then. They made you have to pay to actually put a real email address on it but there were easy ways around it. Now, my buddy is a **** magnet on grinder and everyone has gotten laid on POF. Fortunately, I worked in bars so hot girls came to me lol
Brandon Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 People are desperate look at Jared...millionaire who paid for sex with teens. Something outrageous like 98% of all online paid porn memberships are male. Also FYI Tinder is the main site these days and Grinder is an app that gay men use to hook up for sex. I assume most ladies on that site were just hookers like on Craig's list.

I know my buddy often laments he can never meet a nice guy for a quality relationship and I say oh how do you meet people? "Grinder". There's your answer.
Fraser Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 I've met some pretty decent girls on tinder. Like sophisticated and educated. I have also met some girls that just wanted to get some.
