AtlanticRiderFan Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 Not sure if this needs its own thread, but just thought I'd point out that the temporary stands are ready for the Banjo Bowl. Looked at the seat map on ticketmaster and seats are being sold up to row ten in Sections Skyview South 2 to 5. comedygeek and JohnnyOnTheSpot 2
The Unknown Poster Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 @friesensunmedia: #Bombers have quietly reduced capacity for 103rd Grey Cup, to 36,634. North end temporary stands scrapped. Just 25,576 tics sold.
Noeller Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 If this game is as bad as people are saying (for tix) then this'll be the last game Winnipeg gets for a long time. blueandgoldguy and Westy Sucks 2
Logan007 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 As if people aren't going buy tickets for the Grey Cup and fill up IGF. Even if Winnipeg isn't in it...people will come.
Mark F Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 Noeller's being negative again people will come. Thanks to the frequent TSN shots of the rum hut, and the beautiful women of Wpg hanging out there, people will be coming from far and wide, just to hang out at said rum hut hoping to meet someone. Ever notice how many sports stars stay here, cause they meet someone and can't leave?
Logan007 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 Noeller, what a Debbie Downer. Seriously though, I was talking more about Friesen. He's such a knob. Mark F 1
The Unknown Poster Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 http://www.winnipegsun.com/2015/08/21/smallest-grey-cup-crowd-in-decades The 103rd Grey Cup game will be the poorest attended CFL championship in at least 17 years. And if ticket sales, currently at a snail's pace, don't pick up significantly over the next 12 weeks, the crowd could be the smallest for a Grey Cup in four decades. The Winnipeg Sun has learned the host Blue Bombers have quietly reduced capacity for the Nov. 29 classic to just 36,634, down some 3,400 from the original plan to expand Investors Group Field to 40,000 seats. It's the smallest Grey Cup capacity since the 1970s. The temporary seating planned for the north-end concourse has been scrapped, leaving a temporary grandstand only on the south concourse. Construction on the seating began this week. The reason for the reduced capacity is unclear. The Bombers say president Wade Miller is out of town this week and not available for comment. But a team spokesman told the Sun on Friday the pre-game and half-time entertainment will set up on the north-end concourse instead of the usual location on the field. That decision has obviously been a hasty one: Ticketmaster on Friday continued to sell seats that don't exist in temporary seats in that north end. The team spokesman says fans who've bought or continue to buy tickets in the north end will be relocated to the south end. The Bombers say ticket sales are at 25,576, or around 70% of capacity. Even a sellout of 36,634 would be the smallest crowd to attend a Grey Cup since 1998, when Winnipeg, wallowing in the Jeff Reinebold years, hosted the game and drew just 34,157. The reasons for this year's slow ticket sales once again revolve around the performance of the home team. The Bombers have a losing record (3-5) after dropping four of their last five games. In addition, Saskatchewan is so far out of the playoff picture fans there, usually a rabid bunch, aren't buying up seats like they otherwise would. If Winnipeg doesn't reach capacity this year, the crowd would rival those from the mid-1970s.
The Unknown Poster Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 Paul Friesen ✔ @friesensunmedia Logistics force half-time show for 103rd Grey Cup to north end concourse, not on field as usual. #Bombers Is that an issue with getting a large show in and out of IGF in a timely fashion?
Logan007 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 I just wanted to reiterate what a knob Friesen is. We should do this to Friesen: bearpants and AtlanticRiderFan 2
iso_55 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 People don't want to watch a Grey Cup game in Winnipeg at the end of November. It could be minu 30. If the Riders hadn't got to the GC in 2013 I wonder how many out of towners would've wanted to go to Regina?
FrostyWinnipeg Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 @friesensunmedia: #Bombers have quietly reduced capacity for 103rd Grey Cup, to 36,634. North end temporary stands scrapped. Just 25,576 tics sold. The 91 GC ruined attendance for all future WPG cups even though the next couple were all warm. Actually record setting for the next one I believe.
Logan007 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 Even if we're not in it, just wait until a couple of weeks before the cup. The two teams that are in it are going to scoop up every last ticket and go.
The Unknown Poster Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 Winnipeg is a notorious "walk up" town. Late buyers. Plus its early. Dont X amount of fans wait to see if their team is in it before grabbing tickets? Riders making it would be the best scenario for Winnipeg.
gbill2004 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 Wade's genius pricing structure has predictably backfired. Losing 3,000 seats x $150 per ticket is $450,000 in lost revenue. blueandgoldguy 1
iso_55 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 So, we lost the NHL outdoor game & now Grey Cup tix aren't selling. How much of this falls on Wade Miller? Brandon and blueandgoldguy 2
gbill2004 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Football Club today announced that Investors Group Field is already 70% sold out for the 103rd Grey Cup presented by Shaw, with sales sitting at 25,576 tickets after being made available to the general public for two months. In addition, premium seating and suites are completely sold out. “We are encouraged by the ticket count to date and look forward to selling out the rest to our great Blue Bomber and CFL fans in the months to come,” said WFC President and CEO, Wade Miller. “I am especially grateful for the strong and ongoing support of our season ticket members who have already made their purchases.” After CFL Commissioner Jeffrey L. Orridge recently toured Investors Group Field with members of the Blue Bombers organization, a decision was made to locate the pre-game and halftime shows in the north end of the stadium. This will ensure fans in the stadium have the very best experience, including the opportunity to fully enjoy not only the CFL’s championship game but the world class entertainment that accompanies the game. As a result of this new design, temporary seats will only be in the south end zone. “Investors Group Field is a best-in-class facility and we wanted to ensure that everyone who buys a ticket to the first-ever Grey Cup there has the best possible fan experience,” Orridge said today. Installing temporary seats only in the south end of the stadium will up the capacity to 36,634 for the 103rd Grey Cup presented by Shaw. The WFC has begun its second phase of selling with a focus on the Manitoba business community following a very successful campaign for Grey Cup Festival event tickets. “We’d also like to remind fans that the WFC has a payment plan available for purchasing individual Grey Cup tickets,” said Miller. “The ticket price would be divided equally in each of the three months starting September 15, 2015, with no additional service or interest charges for fans wishing to choose this easy pay option.” As the CFL approaches the mid-season, Miller said fans are starting to see some great football games as every team makes their run towards the 103rd Grey Cup presented by Shaw November 29th in Winnipeg.
Brandon Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 No casual fan will want to sit outside in the freezing cold to watch two teams they don't give two craps about.... they will have to do the all mighty thrifty discount to get the people going... blueandgoldguy 1
iso_55 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 I finance a car but I'd never finance football tickets. If I can't afford the price I don' tgo.
gbill2004 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 The Riders sucking this year has really hurt sales.
The Unknown Poster Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 I know many people here that have said if the Bombers are in it, ofcourse they'd go, but they'd just as soon watch it on TV then brave the elements. I wonder if they will discount tickets to get an advanced sell out or leave some for walk ups. If the weather is "nice", it would help. The amount of money local business would make if the Riders were in it would be tremendous.

The Grey Cup in Regina in 2013 sold out by July 17th, a mere 3 weeks into the season. 44,000+ tickets.
