AKAChip Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 As bad as Marve has been tonight, Marcel has hardly put him in a position to succeed. Just take a page out of the Calgary playbook. Tons of big gains and completions on crosses and slants. Give the guy a chance to complete a pass with space for the receiver to move. He's been hanging onto the ball too much, sure, but a number of those early sacks were plays with no receiver in the middle of the field or any outlets to dump off to. I don't want to jump to rash decisions and judgments but at some point this team needs to show improvement under MOS. This was a game at home against Calgary without Cornish, Hughes and a makeshift o-line. Last week the Riders who are as crappy as any team over the last 10 years with their third string QB gave this average Stamps team all they could handle. Some of these efforts are Tim Burke-esque. LeBird Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Have they made Marve a pocket passer? Mark F 1
Captain Blue Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Definitely getting concerned with the direction of the team. I like Osh, and I think he's done some good things here. The defense is becoming a strength of the team but the offense can't do anything without Willy. Special teams remains a weakness overall too. Honestly though, Marve's got issues we can't hide. I do think we have to completely overhaul the game plan (hello option plays) for him to have a shot at success. He can't go through reads, he isn't hanging in the pocket, and he can't complete a deep ball. I want to say that you roll with him and try to get him to learn the position...but I'm not confident that plan will ever succeed. The learning curve seems really, really steep.
AKAChip Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 A well run slant is impossible to cover in the CFL. It makes me sick to watch Rogers run them time after time and then cut to the Bombers running straight curls over and over followed by the odd fly. Dr. Blue and Mike 2
Blueandgold Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Marve, Bellfool and our O-line can all share this loss.

It makes me sick to watch Rogers run them time after time and then cut to the Bombers running straight curls over and over followed by the odd fly. So true and the "well run" part is important because our curls and flies aren't very well run and are well scouted and defended by the Ds we play against.
Goalie Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Have they made Marve a pocket passer? Seems like it but... he can't throw basic throws so it's irrelevant what they make him.
Mr. Perfect Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Some random thoughts in no particular order… For as slow as he started at the beginning of the year, Jamal Westerman has done all you can ask for and then some. The defence is gradually improving. The pass rush was good today – Albeit against a banged up offensive line. Speaking of which, they have nothing to hang their heads about tonight (with the exception of one person in the next point). A pick six, and another that goes down to the four yard line pretty much seals your fate. Yes they gave up plays, but that’s football. Bruce Johnson shouldn’t have had a job after last season. This year is further proof of that. He may have limited experience, but some of Robert Marve’s reads and decisions with the football have no place in the professional game….but he can run so yay Marve, right?! That being said in his defence, when you’re in second and long all game, you aren’t going to have a lot of success, especially with minimal pro experience – That still doesn’t excuse his decision making. If you want to keep Robert Marve down the road as a third/gadget QB, hey, no issues with that, but if you’re counting on him to develop into a legitimate QB who can read a defence, and deliver the ball accurately AND smartly on a consistent basis, perhaps you should bet on the Toronto Maple Leafs winning the Stanley Cup this year. Any one (emphasis on one) still want to claim the offensive line “isn’t that bad”? Marcel Bellefeuille needs to be fired. Tonight. Is it going to help much in the long run this year sacking him? Likely not. That being said, this team is going nowhere this season, and he’s a big reason why. Hard to see us winning either game against the Riders coming up. Sure glad we have a first round pick to look forward to in May…Oh wait a second…. Two years is way too long not to find an answer to what ails the run game. Have we attempted a screen pass since Cameron Marshall’s touchdown against Toronto? And of course, last but not least…Anyone still want to argue against the value of Drew Willy to this team? No? Hmm, fancy that. Imagine him with an OC that actually knows what he’s doing. bearpants, B-F-F-C, Goalie and 4 others 7
Goalie Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 That was bang on. Just got spit the gum out and slap it away in mid air.

AKAChip Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Agreed with everything other than Bruce Johnson. He didn't have a good game tonight and had a bad undisciplined penalty but love him in coverage and is generally a very sold tackler. He's the least of our issues. Mr Dee and Captain Blue 2

B-F-F-C Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 the biggest gaffe is not having a strong running game to fall back on The biggest gaffe is not using Marshall until the 2nd half. shadybob 1
B-F-F-C Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Appoint Pierce the interim OC and lets see what he can do. Commit to implementing 2 - 3 new offensive plays per week. Give Marve an opportunity to play "his" game. And put Bob Wylie and the Oline in a room and don't let them out until these guys learn how to block three rushers. shadybob 1
Tracker Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 The game was still winnable at the half but the offence had shown no indication that it was up to scoring any touchdowns. Calgary's offence essentially wore the Bomber defence out by the start of the fourth quarter, and it was not a new story.
DR. CFL Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 People seem to think you can now micro manage what may in fact be a macro problem.
pigseye Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 136 net yards of offence tonight for the Blue. Sask hung 325 on them last week, also with a third string qb marcel should be proud shadybob 1
rebusrankin Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Marcel ain't gonna sleep well tonight. Marcel ain't gonna sleep well tonight. Sure he will, MOS won't fire him.

Calgary's offence essentially wore the Bomber defence out by the start of the fourth quarter, and it was not a new story. No spark, no fire. We just witnessed a football exhibition devoid of even one exciting offencive play executed by the home team, and on "Cow Bell Night" to boot! Lucky those damn things didn't come raining down upon the field after that performance. Poor Brian Brohm would be scarred for life. "More cow bells Brian?" Nnoooooooo!!! Floyd 1
Mr Dee Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 Just a comment on the QB issues. Does anybody now question the reason why they were telling us that Marve wasn't ready? .....He's a 3rd string QB at this point, and maybe that is what he'll stay. But he cannot be blamed for tonight's failure. He isn't ready. That passive-passive game plan attack was ideal....for about 5 minutes. We were playing offence on a sandy beach while Calgary had solid footing. Why, oh why didn't we take a page out of the Stamps playbook and throw that slant across the middle? And wait until the 4th quarter to use Veltung? Nuts. One more thing about the QBs, and I couldn't be more serious. If this new kid Russell, on the PR, can throw the ball forward, in any capacity.....cut Brohm tomorrow.
Floyd Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 We all saw that Brohm wasn't ready last year... yet he was second string going into this season. Marve is a decent mobile QB who needs experience... so instead we try to make him into a pocket passer. Bombers trade for Portis then ditch him. Our best hope is Joey Elliott right now... not even kidding. There's no one else. Brandon 1
