When is ray back and what will it take to get him?

Mid September at the earliest.

Lets play hypothetical at for a moment...if we trade for him (we won't, but again hypothetical) then what? The line in front on him is still garbage, and the play calls are still garbage too.

On top of that he's a guy that's a free agent next year, so he'd be nothing more than a rental to try and salvage a season where we are clearly miles behind the league's elite. Re-signing him is pointless for both sides as we have Drew Willy and Ray could find work in Ottawa (should Burris retire) or Montreal once Marsh starts trying to play sand lot football which he does after a certain amount of time, and Popp realizes he has a B+ Steven Jyles in Rakeem Cato.

Here's an open question to anyone.  What playcalls aren't garbage when your quarterback literally cannot make a throw?  Keeping in mind that the defense is sitting in short zones to stop screens, quick game and the run.  You have 2 downs to get 10 yards.  Oh ya, on every play 2 of your offensive linemen are going to get absolutely obliterated at the line of scrimmage.

GO!

four rushing play in the first half.

how bout trying to run the ball, maybe that would be a good place to start.

like Montreal did the other day beating Hamilton. Their rookie quarterback hasn't looked that good at times either… so they help

him by running the ball.

and if wpg can't run the ball, that's not the quarterback's fault.

didn't Marve play last year when the bombers beat calgary?

how's that even possible if he's so crappy?

The Stamps had wrapped up first place. It was a nothing game to them & they rested a number of key veterans. The focus was the western Final & not the Bombers. To the Stamps it was like an exhibition game & they played a number of backups that game. I don't think BLM or Cornish played the entire game.

Has Davis been here long enough to go out and execute even 50% of the playbook?

But seriously we need to play Marve so that we can truly see what we have.  Two games is not enough to truly gauge what we have.

Marve was better last year usuing his natural abilities, this year he's been enrolled in Marcel's QB kindergarten and is failing miserably.

Mark, either you've had a stroke or you're trying to type these messages on a watch.  Which is it?

His "natural abilities" aren't going to take him far if he doesn't learn how to pass at a basic level. Calgary had Simpson spying him and sealing the edge behind the end if Marve did try to leave the pocket. Calgary's ends also never came on inside moves, they stayed in pretty clearly defined wide rush lanes to not give him any opportunity to rollout or scramble. Marve is going to have a hell of a time leaving the pocket if he doesn't make teams respect his arm to at least a basic level.

I think it's obvious that Bellefeuille doesn't design an offense around a qb like Marve's strength, He expects the qb to play in his system. Things aren't going to change. It'll be the same thing next week. At the same time for a qb to develop he has to learn to stay in the pocket, do his reads & progressions & throw the football. You can run around in college & be successful but you can't in the CFL. At the same time there could be plays incorporated to suit Marve's strength like rollouts where he's on the edge & if no one is open he can tuck it & run. Or more zone reads where he runs with the football instead of giving it to the running back.

The thing that Marve has going for him that Willy doesn't is that he can use his legs to get out of trouble & Willy can't. Marve has to develop better pocket awareness & know when it's time to bail. He also has to get rid of the football quicker.

During the broadcast Matt Dunigan questioned Marve's decision making on one of the few passes he threw deep. He looked to one receiver who was open yet chose another who was double covered downfield. Matt said that Marve looked to the open receiver but for some reason went the other way, Matt said that he "didn't trust his eyes" which is a common vernacular coaching qbs. In other words, find the open guy, see him, believe it & throw to him. Don't overthink just do. The only way that happens is experience  & success. Marve will get the experience but if he's  shell shocked he'll never have success & won't get better. We've all seen rookie qbs that just don't make it despite having all the tools to be successful. It'll be interesting to see if Bellefeuille system kills Marve as a player or not.

I thought I heard Marve say on the CJOB post game show that the game had slowed down for him this week compared to his last game.  I hope it slows down a whole lot more for him.

Seems to me that after the first pick he threw he was afraid to throw more then 5 - 10 yards.  I don't know if this was his decision making or the game plan he was trying to stick to but he rarely threw 5+ yards.  With the field position we were starting most drives, that is just too many mistake free plays you have to complete to drive the field.  And the defence starts cheating up if they aren't afraid of you going long, which takes away the play or any chance of yac yards.

The few times he did throw longer, for the most part he was off the mark of throwing a pick.

The more Any QB plays the more other teams have video to prepare and defence against him. He may think it gets easier but he also then becomes more predictable to opponents.

Perhaps the main reason Marve looked better against the Argos.....is that Marcel hadn't totally coached him up yet....

He was just as bad in the second half against the Argos. He needs to be able to make a read and a throw from the pocket because both Toronto's and Calgary's adjustments to him playing QB has been to drop 8 guys in coverage, have 3 rush off the snap, 2 very wide ends and a 4th guy spying to rush him when he starts to scramble and make sure he's pinned in the pocket and can't escape with his eyes downfield. That 4th guy is coming as soon as Marve rolls.

If he can't execute a basic passing play against a basic defensive adjustment to a QB who wants to run/scramble, there's not much hope for him.

Like Mark F alluded to, your analysis emphasizes the importance of our run game which is basically non-existent from a consistent point of view.

I still think a bigger back like a Messam type (one in shape though) would at least help (maybe?) alleviate some of the lack of skill at the QB/Line positions.

And if Marve can't get out of the pocket based on the Defense, take what the defence gives us and dink and dunk down the field, we have the receivers for that, especially Moore.

Shovel pass or screen solves this problem early...
