WBBFanWest Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 So if the plan is to have Nichols start next week, wouldn't giving him the entire LDC as a test drive maximize how ready he would be for the Banjo Bowl?Test drive? Ya, that would be completely reasonable. "Here Matt, here's the playbook, learn as much of it as you can in 3 days cause you're going in. Try not to suck it up too bad."With the patient fans of Winnipeg watching, what could possibly go wrong with that strategy? And with the patient fans of Winnipeg watching it's only going to be worse with Brohm. Real game reps for Nichols this weekend has got to maximize our chances of winning the back end of this home and home. Rome wasn't built in a day, but they sure as hell didn't waste time with garbage like Brian Brohm. And watching our brand new acquisition flounder around in the backfield because he doesn't know the system or the players is likely not too helpful either. O'Shea obviously thinks that its too soon to start Nichols and I can understand that. If Brohm plays like you're fearing, I suspect that it's possible that we could see Nichols go in at some point. I'm betting that O'Shea is hoping that he doesn't have to do that because the chances of Nichols looking real bad strongly outweighs the chances that with half a playbook (at best) he can come in and be the saviour. So let's hope that Brohm can put together his game for the ages and go 12-24, 214 yrs, 1 TD and 1 int, because that with 3 field goals and a pick six might just be enough to win.
do or die Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 Sad part is that it was not Marve who was the short term plan as backup....but the "experienced" Brohm. BB was supposed to be the RTU substitute for not acquiring a vet QB, in the offseason. At least with the Nichols trade, they have seen the light.
Harbaugh Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 All Nichols has to do is be better than Brohm. If he's better than Brohm this week then we are a better team, and a better team moving forward into next week because Nichols would have a game under his belt.
Mr Dee Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 Not starting and not playing are two different things. If a QB dresses, then there is always the potential of having to play, regardless of how ready he might be. But having said that, Nichols had next to zero time to learn the playbook and get some familiarity with his receiving corps. So to ask him to step in, baring something unforeseen, really wouldn't be a good plan. Especially when you consider that if he was to go in and look bad, which wouldn't be real surprising, a lot of fans are going to cut him exactly zero slack, and then the first time he makes a bad throw or a bad read during the Banjo Bowl, the average fan in the stands is going to react like the average fan.Nichols is not starting for a reason, we all know that, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility that he gets in for a set or two...depending.And I think you're selling Bomber fans short. Fans are prepared to cut anybody slack when there is something there to look forward to. Brohm? No. Marve?? Nichols? He will be treated just fine.
do or die Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 Proof is in pudding......he wears Blue and Gold.....Brohm can find the love, if he actually does something.....

If he's better than Brohm this week then we are a better team, and a better team moving forward into next week because Nichols would have a game under his belt. Do you think he'd learn more standing behind centre running for his life or watching from the sidelines? Not like this is a raw rookie here who just needs game reps, he's had game reps with Edmonton quite a bit this year. He needs to learn the playbook and the offence and he will do that better in the film room and on the sidelines than playing in the game this week. Fan Boy 1

Tehedra Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 I agree with 17to85; he already knows defenses so he doesn't need to be in the game action to learn defenses. He needs to learn our offense and it will be easier learning it while watching than learning it while in the game. blitzmore and blueandgoldguy 2
Harbaugh Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 EXTRA EXTRA Nichols knows defenses! Im not sure I can get behind that. I can sure get behind Brohm not knowing them though.

No but when you're trying to get a guys understanding of an offense up to par it's better for him to not have to worry about that kind of thing. He's been around the CFL long enough and played enough he knows what game speed is, he needs time to mentally get the game plan in his head, that is better served watching this week than playing. People don't like Brohm that's fine, but let's not say stupid stuff like Nichols should start after only being here for a couple days. Even a prime Ricky Ray wouldn't start on only a couple days.
Goalie Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 If Nichols can learn the playbook in 2 days... that playbook needs to be burned and thrown away like NOW...
Tracker Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 More than one career may be decided this weekend.
do or die Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 Yup, if you cannot move the ball against that D....real hard questions are in order....
HardCoreBlue Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 Yup, if you cannot move the ball against that D....real hard questions are in order.... From a coaching standpoint they also have to grade out the OL, Receivers, RB's, Offensive gameplan that can deflect attention (rightly/wrongly) away from the QB's play. Football is an ultimate team sport, no? Maybe this is why Brohm has lasted so long with us but eventually (maybe after this weekend) won't hold enough water and skipper (thanks Tracker) will be shown the door.

LeBird Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 I get the feeling no matter how Brohm plays he's in for the next two games. Tracker 1
Jesse Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 I get the feeling no matter how Brohm plays he's in for the next two games. I very much disagree with that. The coaching staff has shown in the past few games that they'll pull Brohm and/or Marve after a certain point of ineptitude. Whether we see Davis or Nichols go in is up for debate at that point.
