Around the CFL -

You know what can happen this year? A first ever East-to-West crossover. Montreal sits in a position right now to cross over and get the West's 3rd playoff spot position. Since 1996, the first year, the West has "crossed over" 8 times, but never the East.

- In inter-divisional play, the East leads 15 wins to 9.

- For the 1st time in the CFL, the Labour Day games will feature a pair of battles for 1st place in both divisions - Toronto @ Hamilton and Edmonton @ Calgary.

- No first year player is even close to Derel Walker's 3 game total of 31 catches for 472 yards. Only one player (vet) has as many yards in the first 3 games of any season - the Bombers Alfred Jackson -1994.

- Walker's pace could net him 1888 yards. The first year record is 1530 yards by Matt Clark. Walker would have to average 118 yards per game to match this. This seems unlikely to me.

- Games continue to have more points than last year's 45.5 per game. This year is at 49.9. I want to mention that the Bombers are at least a little bit responsible for this - unfortunately, at the receiving end.

- Defensive TDs are at a record pace - 22 in 40 games. Could beat the record of 43 in 2004 by 2 (45)

- third down gambles' success rate have dropped from an 84% in 2013 to 67% this year so far.

- kickers have now made 85.9% of their attempts of 1 pt. converts, compared to 99.4% last year.

- the year-to-date average of penalties per game fell for the 8th straight week.

- there were 18 close games last year (within 1-4 points) There are already 18 close games this year - out of 40. Sask is within 3 of the Bombers record of 9 in 2010.

- Close games? 63% (25 of 40) have not been settled until the final 3:00 - compared to 47% in 2014.

I am guessing you mean kickers have made 85.9 % of their one point converts. I don't remember 99.4% field goals being successful last year.

sorry... Accuracy counts.

And Wally has this to say : Buono said he is about to start identifying players the Lions would like to offer contract extensions.

*But the manner in which contracts have been negotiated since the league and CFL Players Association last signed a collective agreement means the targeted players are those who are entering their option year in 2016, not players who are about to become free agents after this season.

*That means a number of potential free agents, including starting quarterback Travis Lulay, tailback Andrew Harris and receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux, aren’t going to get offers at least until the Lions investigate whether they can extend younger players, like cornerback Ronnie Yell or linemen Alex Bazzie and Mich’eal Brooks for example.

“The players who are 2015 free agents have had an increase so I’m going to look at option-year players first,” Buono explained. “I’ll do it a step at a time but the step will be methodical.”

Players like Harris and Arceneaux will likely be offered a chance to stay before hitting free agency in February, Buono said. They just won’t come first.

*The lions dropped out of the Lemon bidding, however, the Lions will be big bidders if Canadian centre Brett Jones is waived this week by the New York Giants. Jones is a 24-year-old CFL free agent who signed in the NFL after two solid years with Calgary and would represent a significant change for a team playing an American centre and three offensive line imports, as is the case with the Lions.

@mattsekeres: Would not be shocked if @BCLions fire HC Jeff Tedford if lose tonight vs. @MTLAlouettes. If so, Wally Buono goes back to sidelines. #CFL

Wow, he's worse than Popp getting his fingers sticky. The trouble with Wally is he never should have left the sidelines to just be GM. In his mind he's STILL the best coach in the Lions organization. The trouble is it's probably true but he  needs to let Tedford have a year to get his system installed..

Kato in Florida for family reasons. At least Rod Black isn't doing this game to remind us once again how tough an upbringing Kato had in Liberty, FL & how nothing bothers him because of it.

And Beck is not setting the field on fire but so far he's managing the game well by keeping things simple with few mistakes. A good recipe for the Bombers on Sunday?

Replace Beck for Brohm and the panel might be giving him props come Sunday. Honestly wouldn't be shocked if brohm has a big game

If he doesn't, he'll be selling cell phone covers at St Vital Centre kiosk on Monday. Brohm is playing for his career at the LDC.

Brohm's career is already decided. He would have to almost walk on water to be here much longer, or have every other QB in the fold comatose.

Your not related are you? Jk☺

As was posited, the game against Hamlton was a fluke due to players fearing for their jobs and playing over their heads. If the landslide continues, will Popp fire or demote himself? It would be only fair.

But you would probably be alone.

I have a feeling Brohm might only be a good QB when he starts.
