SPuDS Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 Nichols is clearly the backup we have needed.. chevy did not too shabby today.. Cole, where did you come from? Outstanding start to his cfl career.. Simmons looking as advertised.. Even Longo minus some hiccups looked better then greaves or paddy.. Anyone im missing? Oh and O'shea as ST coordinator... Better coverage and blocking on kicks and a trick play that worked?!
JuranBoldenRules Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 Longo and Bryant were getting beat on the simplest twist all night. LB blitzes into LT, DE loops around into the LT's inside gap. All night. Nichols got the ball out pretty quick for the most part, but took some shots too. That twist was used on his first fumble. Stickem Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 Quick release by Nichols was key all night...I don't know why but even with Drew behind centre it seemed to take forever for him to find the receivers...I can't believe we are still handing off deep in the backfield, and running into a brick wall or getting dumped behind the line for zippo...All in all though I guess we can't complain the offence finally came back to life..

You're really looking at low standards when it comes to Brohm though
Rod Black Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 Not totally new players but Bass' pick 6 was a great play. However, he sure seems slow getting into the end zone. What was noticeable is that is own player, Bruce Johnson blasted up the field to escort Bass for the score. I did not know this and just learned but Bruce Johnson scored the first defensive touchdown in the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. He has also won an NFC Championship and has a Super bowl ring. He's recognized as having burning speed.

Tracker Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 Nichols brought a poise and confidence we haven't seen in a year, except for a couple of drives by Willy earlier this year. I do not see Nichols supplanting Willy, but its nice to see that behind what is still a dreadful O-line. Hurl and Leggett were good, and Bass just keeps getting better and better, the D-backs were solid for the most part, we had good (not great) pressure on Smith, but Chevon Walker was nowhere close to good. And our receivers stood out for a change- either Bellefeuille has had a deathbed repentance or Bohm and Marve are as dumb as a bag of hammers.
Brandon Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 Go figure... you throw the ball to Kohlert , Denmark and Kohlert a few times in the game and they'll go up and make some plays. Who would of known! SPuDS and Floyd 2

Bass just ran out of steam, that's common with football players, they're so focussed on the explosive short range speed a lot of them really suck when they have to maintain that speed over a distance.

This, and after the game he said he was watching himself on the big screen so he knew there was no one within 20 yards of him. He didn't have to do a wind sprint to score. Rod Black 1

So Bass was slower. My point was, that Bruce Johnson is fast and that he has some career highlights and winning experience at a high level.
Noeller Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 The more important thing with that Bass INT is that he saw the play telegraphed and was prepared to make the grab. Secured the football first, then ran...and ran, and ran, and ran.......
17to85 Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 DBs are generally the fastest guys on the team, just the nature of the position. Why do you think a lot of kick returners are defensive backs?

do or die Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 The important thing is that Westerman was blocked out of the play, early.....and kept his motor running....

That was Longo's fault not Bryant, and if you ask me you could blame Walters Greaves was better than that ,not saying Longo won't be good but why not make sure BEFORE you make the trade...
Noeller Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 Longo had a couple bad plays early but got better as the game went. Interested to see how he looks vs Montreal on Sunday...
Mr Dee Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 Longo had a couple bad plays early but got better as the game went. Interested to see how he looks vs Montreal on Sunday... Yeah, Longo let through a few early, almost like the ex-Vancouver goalie, but he does have force, and now he's seen the force - Monroe, Chick, he'll have a better idea of what to expect. If they ever could clean up that side, we'd be off and running.

If they ever could clean up that side, we'd be off and running. we also gotta remember longo had minimal reps before slotting in.. worrying about the yard off the ball probably had him panicked a bit.. as the game slows for him his size and strength will make him a better option.. on some plays he absolutely held that stomach rubbing rube in check.. Guy reminds me of nate davis (monroe not longo) and in a bad way. Noeller 1
