iso_55 Posted November 2, 2015 Report Posted November 2, 2015 Putin better be careful. He talks & acts tough but he could be plunging his country into another Afghanistan situation like Brezhnev did in 1979. The Soviets got their ass kicked & later withdrew.
The Unknown Poster Posted November 2, 2015 Author Report Posted November 2, 2015 I think Putin is just making it easier for Iran to gain control in the region. Iran will end up in control of Iraq sooner or later. By the time Iran gets nukes, they will be tough to stop. At some point Isreal is going to act pre-emptively to prevent their own destruction. Things will eventually get very messy. or messier as it is.
kelownabomberfan Posted November 2, 2015 Report Posted November 2, 2015 (CNN)The only reasonable explanation for the crash of a Russian passenger jet in Egypt is "an external influence," an executive from the airline that operated the flight said Monday, stressing that planes don't just break apart in midair. Kogalymavia Flight 9268 broke into pieces before it hit the ground in a remote area of Egypt's restive Sinai Peninsula on Saturday, killing all 224 people on board. The executive was not specific about what he meant by an external influence. Experts say it is too early to know for certain what caused the plane to break up at the start of what could be a lengthy investigation. ***I believe ISIS claimed responsibility immediately but Russia said it was not credible. Why do commercial jets fly over war zones? The Sinai is not considered a war zone, at least, not since 1973. The Russians may be trying to save face instead of saying that it was shoddy maintenance that caused this crash. Apparently this plane was involved in a tail strike in 2001 in Cairo when the back-end hit the runway. There are several documented cases of planes that suffered tail strikes breaking up in mid-air many years later, including a Japan Airlines plane and a China Airlines plane. Tail strikes can be a real maintenance issue as the damage they do can be hard to detect. Needless to say I would never want to fly on a plane that had suffered a tail strike. The Unknown Poster 1

The Unknown Poster Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 Top of a slippery slope here? (CNN)The U.S. Department of Education found a Chicago-area school district discriminated against a transgender student by failing to provide her full access to girls' locker rooms. "All students deserve the opportunity to participate equally in school programs and activities -- this is a basic civil right," Assistant U.S. Secretary for Civil Rights Catherine Lhamon said in a statement Monday. The student who hasn't been publicly identified participates on a girls' sports team, but has been required to change and shower separately from her teammates and classmates. The DOE launched the investigation following a 2013 complaint by the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, which is representing her. "The Department of Education's decision makes clear that what my school did was wrong," the student said in statement from the ACLU. "I hope no other student, anywhere, is forced to confront this indignity. It is a good day for all students, but especially those who are transgender all across the nation." Township High School District 211 defended its stance, saying it has been responsive to the needs of its transgender students. "We do not agree with (the DOE's) decision and remain strong in our belief that the District's course of action, including private changing stations in our locker rooms, appropriately serves the dignity and privacy of all students in our educational environment," the district said in a statement. "This decision makes me extremely happy -- because of what it means for me, personally, and for countless others," the student said. "The district's policy stigmatized me, often making me feel like I was not a 'normal person.'"

The Unknown Poster Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 Im curious how the parents of the other children feel? Im all for gay rights, for sure. But the rights of one shouldnt over ride the rights of the others. So if I understand this correctly, a person born a boy, identifies as a girl has the right to change and shower with the girls. So how do the girls feel about that? And what precautions are in place to avoid abuse, exploitation and the small chance some boy claims to be a girl so he can go shower with the girls?
kelownabomberfan Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Too many stories and accidents for me to like nuclear power. Still waiting on cold fusion Too many completely made-up stories. And therein lies the problem. The fear-mongering about nuclear power is off the charts, and it's almost completely unwarranted. Especially since people are still telling stories from the 1960's and 1970's. If people stopped traveling by air because a few planes crashed, then no one would ever have found safer ways to build airplanes. Yet more people were killed in that Russian plane crash on the weekend then have ever been directly killed by nuclear power. Noeller and The Unknown Poster 2
Noeller Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 I grew up in Pinawa....we're taught from birth to beware the anti-Nuke voice out there. My grandfather was a nuclear scientist who worked his way up the ladder at Atomic Energy of Canada and created Whiteshell Nuclear Research Establishment in the 60s, along with his team. We were taught various "emergency protocols" throughout school, just in case something should ever go wrong out at "The Plant", but nothing ever did. The amount of safety measures in place...especially after incidents like Chernobyl and Three Mile Island.....really kept the dangerous stuff at bay.

George Monbiot is as big a global warming believer as they come, and he's also so far left that he makes Fidel Castro look like Ted Cruz. The Unknown Poster Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 (CNN)Antarctica is gaining more ice than it has lost, according to a new study by NASA. A NASA team came to this conclusion after scientists examined the heights of the region's ice sheet measured from satellites. The new methods used by scientists to come to this study's conclusion, such as measuring small height changes in the ice over large areas, warrant consideration. But the findings do conflict with more than a decade of research indicating that Antarctica is losing ice and that the loss has contributed to rising global sea levels Many scientists agree that the Antarctic Peninsula and parts of West Antarctica are losing ice and that the rate of loss is increasing. In the eastern part of the continent and part of the interior, there have been ice gains. These gains, scientists from the study say, are more than the losses in the rest of the region. This net gain in ice would mean that Antarctica would not be contributing to sea level rises, but could help offset some of the major ice losses in places from Greenland and glaciers worldwide. Scientists suspect that increased snowfall, which began 10,000 years ago, is the reason for the gain in Antarctica. Over the years, the snow has accumulated and compacted to form ice. ****Hmmmm, so a change in weather 10,000 years ago is impacting the climate today? Thats weird. I dont recall the industrialized age beginning 10,000 years ago. Weird. I wonder if the earth goes through regular warming and cooling trends over the course of it's lifetime, regardless of the actions of man. Wouldnt that be something.

Fukishima was built on a fault line. Just pointing at mistakes of the past doesn't mean that we can't move forward and fix what went wrong in the past. I just am so not a fan of being a coward when there is so much potential for so much cheap energy that could benefit all mankind, and pull everyone out of poverty that is still there in so much of the world.

kelownabomberfan Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Sweden, the envy of all those who honestly think socialism is a good thing. Feel free to move there. Please. BLEEDING HEART JOURNALIST: Enters Muslim ‘NO GO’ Zone, Now Something Else Is Bleeding A few more stories like this one, and we can safely say that Sweden will no longer be that poster child for why Socialism is the better way forward. Scratch that: actually, a few more stories like this one, and Sweden might no longer exist. It all started simply enough: with wrong-headed Progressive assumptions. In this instance, some neighborhoods were chucking rocks at police. One journalist applied the modern journalistic methods to the situation: find out who wronged them so badly that they have taken to chucking rocks. Naturally, they must have a reason — right? It’s just a matter of hearing their side of the story. That is the story for which Ms. Valentina Xhaferi went looking. She found it. In the middle of one of Stockholm’s “no-go” zones, she found one resident willing to discuss that “other side of the story” on camera. They met in the agreed-on public space, and set up for filming. A passer-by asked why they were filming, and was told. So he grabbed a few friends. And a few rocks. Things turned ugly pretty quickly. She wanted to get away. They hurled insults, splashed the cameraman with coffee, kicked over their equipment, which they caught on film. She tried reason. “It was impossible to calm them down. I pulled back and tried to calm down everyone, while trying to get my colleague and myself out of there.” Then someone chucked a stone. They finished the report a week later … this time with police escort. In relating her story, she unwittingly identified what’s really happening here. “They thought we crossed the limit and that we were standing on their land.” Nowhere in the story does it mention identifying characteristics of this “foreign born” community. But we are told that this particular “no-go” zone consists of upwards of 70% “foreign-born” residents. (Statistics tell us that some 40,000 people live within Tensta, a suburb of Stockholm.) Other zones actually boast nearly 100% foreign-born residents. It wasn’t hard to find which reports she was seeking the “other side”. Police claims that lone squad cars won’t even pursue criminals into certain neighborhoods. Swedish law simply doesn’t apply there. Shariah is enforced, instead. There are, police estimate, 55 “no-go” zones in Sweden. They are by no means the only European country that has them. And remember: that was before the wave of humanity began spilling into Europe. Is it genuinely “compassionate” to have areas of a city where the rule of law is not enforced, and not enforceable? And to whom are the adjudicators of Sharia, themselves, accountable? http://clashdaily.com/2015/10/say-good-bye-to-sweden-journalist-pitied-rioters-but-was-shocked-when-this-happened/
