Ducky Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 They used to have the champs play an all-star team from the league. The threat of injury is still there though. Where were you? If minus 10 bugs you, don't look at the forecast.
Taynted_Fayth Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 all in all not a bad ASG, i think the 3 on 3 gave a lot of people (and goalies) a chance to shine. I still think its all gimmick with little substance. I did however feel like the 1 mill prize (maybe? doubt it though), and the whole Scott story gave a little more effort then i recall in years past). I still like the MLB ASG stipulation with the winning league getting home field advantage for the finals. obviously most of those playing in the game, will not be on either finalist team, but it's still a pretty big impact and whose to say each players team doesn't make a post season run as long as they are in it. I don't believe the NBA does it either, but it's too bad, such a simple thing that goes towards having a little meaning on the actual season and it really gives an opportunity for an underdog team to reap some benefit should they make it to the show. I honestly don't watch the pro bowl for its lack of purpose. but being the homer i am, would watch a CFL ASG if they ever decide to have one for ****s and giggles
sweep the leg Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Glad the game is over so all of the John Scott talk will go away.
Goalie Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Minus 10 is fine but when you spend 2 weeks or so in plus 30... that's a 40 degree difference.
Goalie Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Some...what I'm going to call speculation, is that if the jets sign buff, trouba is gone via trade. Just saying but if that's true... I love buff but.... I'm signing the 21 year old instead and moving buff This according to Friedman. Not sure I buy it tho.

Friedman is generally more sensible than that. Sounds like the usual "Winnipeg cant afford top players" nonsense. Makes ZERO sense to trade Trouba regardless of Buff's contract.
The Unknown Poster Posted February 1, 2016 Author Report Posted February 1, 2016 Steven Stamkos is staying quiet in the face of a leak. The Tampa Bay Lighting captain is neither confirming nor denying a report by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman that the Tampa Bay Lightning tabled an offer with an average annual salary of $8.5 million. “I’m not going to comment on that,” Stamkos told the Tampa Bay Times‘ Joe Smith on Sunday. General manager Steve Yzerman and Stamkos's representatives at Newport Sports have yet to comment on the reported offer, which would give Stamkos a raise of $1 million per year. In light of centre Anze Kopitar, another potential unrestricted free agent, accepting an extension valued at $10 million per season, Stamkos will surely be looking for a contract that pays him more than the $8.5 million annually of the reported offer.
Goalie Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Saw a link to it on twitter just 5 minutes ago. Ya. That's why I said I'm not sure if I buy it.... seems and reads like big time speculation
Rich Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 http://www.todaysslapshot.com/from-the-ice/friedman-jets-decisions-impact-the-market-the-most/
The Unknown Poster Posted February 1, 2016 Author Report Posted February 1, 2016 idle and silly speculation on his part. He's not taking into account Myers' diminishing cash on his deal plus Toby has one year (or is it two) left. Why would you trade a way a possible franchise D man because you cant afford $5m for an extra year? Never going to happen. The only way Trouba gets trades is if he demands it and holds out to do so...and even then, Kane wanted to be traded and ended up signing long term...because RFA's have little leverage.
Goalie Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Perhaps off ice issues play a role but... Doubt it. He's not worth 6 7 million a year tho but 5 5.5 probably long term is fair.

Ducky Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Trouba should get a bridge deal.........doesn't deserve a long term deal yet. Freidman's last rumor was Buff being offered for Hamonic and everyone took it as gospel.
iso_55 Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 How many players would want to come to Winnipeg for an all star game? That's why the Jets may get the game once in the next 30 years. If the game was played in Winnipeg, I wonder what the theme would be? This year's format was better than others. I didn't like the way Jim Randorf asked the players on the ice to do pbp. What's next, he puts on a pair of skates & takes a shift? The interviews with Amy Grant & her country star hubby on the bench? Nothing like talking to celebrities who know very little about the game. We know the players could care less out there but the broadcaster should. I ended up switching to the Pro Bowl & never saw the final. I can tell you, two games that don't need an all star game, hockey & football.
Ducky Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Does anyone know what criteria must be met for an RFA to get arbitration? I can't seem to find it.
The Unknown Poster Posted February 1, 2016 Author Report Posted February 1, 2016 At any point during the negotiation process, if the player has been in the NHL for longer than 4 years (less if the player signed his first contract after the age of 20), either the player or his current team may file for salary arbitration as a means of settling a contract dispute. At this point the player may no longer sign an offer sheet. The deadline to file for salary arbitration is July 5 with cases being heard between late July and early August. Salary Arbitration. Both the player and his current team submit their expectations for the player's salary for the coming year. The team cannot request a reduction in salary of greater than 15%. The arbitrator hears the case from both player and team and renders a verdict. The verdict sets the salary the team is required to pay the player. After the arbitrator's verdict is rendered, the team must make a decision within 48 hours of the verdict being rendered. If the team accepts, the player is signed to a new contract at the salary set in the verdict. Should the team decline, the player then becomes an unrestricted free agent. A team can take a player to arbitration once in his career. Players may request salary arbitration as often as they please.
Goalie Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Let's pretend Trouba is being shopped assuming buff signs. Buff Myers is a great 1 2 RHD group. If a team like Edmonton wanted Trouba and they offered let's say RNH and their 1st round pick in 2016.. Top 5 for sure. I'd have a hard time turning it down. I think if Trouba is being shopped... an overpayment is a guarantee... would people do Trouba for RNH plus Edmonton 1st at the draft? This is all assuming buff is signed. Be hard to turn down.
Ducky Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 I'd do that deal but I'd rather trade Myers in a deal for RNH.
FrostyWinnipeg Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 4 hours ago, Ducky said: I'd do that deal but I'd rather trade Myers in a deal for RNH. Um....no
Ducky Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 RNH and a guaranteed top 5 (more than likely top 3 or higher) is good value for him.
Ducky Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 I'd rather see Myers and Petan/2nd rounder go there and RNH come back though.
Goalie Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 Yeah but that doesn't really seem likely. Trouba would be the odd man out I'm guessing
Jimmy Pop Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 If I'm Edmonton, no way I take less than Trouba, Petan-like prospect + pick for RNH. If I'm Winnipeg, no way I take that deal. I think one of Edm's FW find their way to Brooklyn and Hamonic comes to Alberta. Hope not, just a hunch.
