TBURGESS Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Rumors are Cortez is looking to be retired... They weren't exactly miles a head either in terms of points scored... they had something like 16 more points scored than us... How could they be behind us in time of possession? Our D was on the field for 40 minutes a game at times. Points by offense: BC - 394, WPG - 309 = 85 more points than us. So, 4pts a game....... or 27% more points or 7th in the league vs 9th or 3rd best points per game in the last half of the season.
Captain Blue Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 I'd be pretty happy with Cortez. Offense with Jennings was pretty good. Another experienced coordinator, would remind me similar to the Hall hire.
Mr Dee Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Speaks more to the ineptness of Bellefeuille's offence than anything else...
johnzo Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Yeah, and the other top offenses in the second half of last season (Redblacks, Eskimos, Stamps) were all led by veteran quarterbacks. Cortez had Jennings playing like a CFL veteran. There's another real promising Wally QB recruit. Burris, Garcia, Dickenson, Printers (for awhile), Pierce, Reilly, Lulay, now Jennings. Insert standard lament: "How does he do it, when we haven't found a good one since Danny McManus?"
M.O.A.B. Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Per Lawless, Lions denied permission for Bombers to speak to Khari Jones for the vacant OC job. My reaction? Thanks Buono. TBURGESS 1
Mark F Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 As Robert Duran once said.... No Maas. no maas.
FrostyWinnipeg Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Wally has fired two head coaches now and if I was an assistant I wouldn't feel too safe there. It's never gonna be Wally's fault after all. NEWS 1130 Sports @NEWS1130Sports 47m47 minutes agoLook for #BCLions to announce soon that OC George Cortez is no longer with the team.. IMO, we should not be thinking about bringing Cortez here. We need a creative younger mind, not a grumpy over the hill old man. Someone said that about Burris.
Noeller Posted December 2, 2015 Author Report Posted December 2, 2015 So, according to Twitter, the Riders offered money to Huff that would make him the highest paid person in the entire CFL, including the Commissioner (!!) and he turned it down. Talk is that if the Riders offer similar money and complete control to Jones, he's all in to the Riders. Lalji guessing Maas would replace Jones...Jarious Jackson to replace Cortez.....Lapo to replace Bellefuille.....
iso_55 Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Still saying that they just end up promoting Buck. He'll come cheap. Bombers really missed the boat with Jason Maas... Everybody other than Montreal did. A year ago who was Jason Mass? Former Ricky Ray wannabee in Edmonton & Toronto, his BFF & qb coach. He wasn't on anyone's radar.

Jpan85 Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Per #CFL sources: Winnipeg recently asked Ottawa to interview Jason Maas to become Assistant Head Coach/OFF coordinator. Permission denied. — Arash Madani (@ArashMadani) December 2, 2015

Logan007 Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 So much for someone saying you can talk to another teams coach if it's for an upgrade to their position. OC/asst head coach would be an upgrade.
pigseye Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Coaches won't matter if you don't have the players to compete. Better players make even bad coaches passable.
JuranBoldenRules Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 So much for someone saying you can talk to another teams coach if it's for an upgrade to their position. OC/asst head coach would be an upgrade. The only "upgrade" that is sure to get permission is assistant to head coach.
rebusrankin Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 What is Maas wants to leave? **** Ottawa.
iso_55 Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Still think the Bombers are a "destination of choice" for CFL assistants looking to move up?
rebusrankin Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 I'd like to add a FU to Wally for denying us permission to talk to Khari too.
johnzo Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Still think the Bombers are a "destination of choice" for CFL assistants looking to move up? I think Ottawa wants to hang onto Maas and BC wants to hang onto Jones. Noeller 1
Mr Dee Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 So, let me get this straight. The Bombers are criticized for not getting better asst coaches, even when it's shown they are trying, and then, in an odd turn of events, they are criticized again because they can't get better coaches? That's just weird. And how is being denied permission the same as someone not wanting to come here? johnzo, sweep the leg and blitzmore 3
Captain Blue Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 If Saskatchewan is willing to offer that much then Jones is gonna be heading there pretty quickly. I remain hopeful we get someone other than LaPo.
Noeller Posted December 3, 2015 Author Report Posted December 3, 2015 Fwiw, Lawless refuting Madani's assertion about Huff.....says Riders absolutely never offered Huff a job.....
17to85 Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 Still think the Bombers are a "destination of choice" for CFL assistants looking to move up? teams aren't even giving the Bombers permission to talk to them, that tells me at least 2 teams are worried about guys leaving for Winnipeg. Try again with the doom and gloom, this try failed. blitzmore, BigBlueFanatic and Wanna-B-Fanboy 3
Blueballz Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 I have heard from someone close to John Rush(Guelph University) that after the grey cup there will be announcement that he has signed with the bombers. I know he just won the defensive player of the year for the CIS and he has potential but what is everyone's opinion of him. here's an article on him https://gryphonfootball.wordpress.com/2015/11/18/niagara-newspaper-story-on-john-rush/ Really hope he surprised us, wasn't sold on Hurl at MLB this season.
