'Cept it wasn't a choice between Poblah and Laurent - Wpg could've had both. Bombers, with the first pick overall in the 2011 supp draft, selected Poblah. Bombers then could have selected Laurent in the second round even after they selected Poblah first overall in the first round. Bombers would have had to forfeit a 3rd round pick if they had picked up Laurent, however. And Bombers didn't want to do that, apparently, so Laurent was scooped up by Esks. I think Esks Tillman knew Laurent better from Ole Miss. then again, much of the same talent-assessing braintrust for Wpg then as now in Walters and Lapolice. Here's Lapo saying Bombers thought Poblah was best athlete: http://www.torontosun.com/2011/05/30/blue-bombers-select-poblah-in-supplemental-draft

The Bombers couldn't have given a third round pick for Laurent -  the Eskimos gave up their second round pick for him.

Impossible for you to say this - they never publicized which player was auctioned off first. Hypothetically, the Bombers could have had whichever one they wanted but there's absolutely no guarantee they could've had both and it would certainly not have been for a first and third rounder - it would've cost the first and the second if it was at all possible.

Not to mention that Laurent wasn't well known and Poblah was considered a guy that would have been a slam dunk first overall selection if he'd been in the draft. People use hindsight way too much when discussing this stuff. Poblah was considered a great prospect as a NI, it didn't work out and we got burned, c'est la vie.

Everyone wonders about how much money WE are spending ... Montreal has probably spent more money than anyone in the past 6 months.

Muamba, Martin, Stafford, Carter ... that's probably close to 750k right there.

Probably closer to 800k. Carter and Muamba were 500k and I am pretty sure that Stafford and Martin are easily at 150k each.

And if they had signed Laurent that would be pushing a mil right there for 5 players.

I really believe if they had signed Laurent, they would have dealt Martin's rights.

Sure sounds like they had to deal someone that's for sure. Martin would have been the logical choice if they got Laurent.
