blueandgoldguy Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 On Hustler and Lawless they briefly discussed this with Steve Simmons and the consensus was that Jones' refusal to directly answer questions regarding a potential move to Saskatchewan this off-season to take the position of GM/head coach means he is as good as gone in Edmonton for 2016. I wonder what the Riders are willing to pay? $500,000? $600,000? Maybe even $750,000? Thoughts? Mark F 1
Goalie Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 Or you know it meant nothing and he just wanted to celebrate winning the grey cup. Pretty classless question to ask him 2 minutes after winning Was gaining some respect for Lawless but... pretty much lost it with asking Jones that question. Steve Simmons is also a huge joke rebusrankin, iso_55, Blue-urns and 3 others 6
blueandgoldguy Posted November 30, 2015 Author Report Posted November 30, 2015 It's their job to ask the tough questions...possibly at inopportune times. I have no issue with it. I wonder how long it will be before we hear an official announcement.
Mike Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 I really don't think this ends up happening. SPuDS 1
Mark F Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 heard someone being interviewed, (radio, 1290 I think) saying Chris Jones probably makes 310 thousand dollars as head coach, and would make substantially more for both jobs. question he was asked was "why would Jones move?" answer was 1. control 2. money. Obviously he will go there if he doubles his salary. 300 thousand is a lot, but 500 thousand is a lot more. and, if he does the same thing again with sask, as he's done with Edmonton, who knows, the NFL might come calling. based on what I've been hearing for the last few days, his ferocious defence in Edmonton is no fluke. 1290 sure has left 680 in the dust as far as sports coverage goes, at least for me.
Stickem Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 ...Jones the 'gambler' will go where the money is...Who's to say that Herv. and Edm. won't sweeten his position and up his salary though...Good bargaining chip to play against the roughies no matter how this shakes down..
Brandon Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 Is he under contract and why would Edmonton give him up to a division rival?
Mark F Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 as far as I can tell, coaches are always let out of contracts to move around in the CFL. some kind of unwritten gentleman's agreement. probably cause the job security is so tenuous.
holoman Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 Why is it most of these rumours are started by people who rarely follow the CFL
JuranBoldenRules Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Edmonton doesn't even have to allow him to talk to the Riders, and why would they?
Guest Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Hey, if Jones does go to Saskatchewan doesn't that ensure the Bombers have a shot at Murphy or Sunderland at the end of 2016 ?
Ducky Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Edmonton doesn't even have to allow him to talk to the Riders, and why would they? He could have a clause in his contract that states if he gets a higher position, i.e. GM, he can break the existing contract and accept the GM position. It wouldn't surprise me if he does have this clause.
White Out Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Edmonton doesn't even have to allow him to talk to the Riders, and why would they? The classless clown was under contract when he left for Edmonton, and didn't seem to provide any notice to the Stamps. Clearly CFL contracts dont mean much. Stamps probably got a little cheddar from the Eskimos.

kelownabomberfan Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 I'm surprised that Marcel hasn't entered into the discussions yet on the Rider job. Or has he? And yes, I am starting that rumour, now all I need is Pedersen to tweet it.

Jones left Calgary for Toronto not Edmonton, because Milanovich and Jones made a pact when they were in Montreal, whichever one was hired first as a Head Coach, he would hire the other.
DR. CFL Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Everyone just loves to hate a winner. Mark F 1

Well, TSN is sports all day everyday. CJOB is news, sports & discussion so not surprised you feel that way.
M.O.A.B. Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 It looks like Hervey or Jones for the Esks. So if you're Len Rhodes... who do you keep?
bearpants Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 It looks like Hervey or Jones for the Esks. So if you're Len Rhodes... who do you keep? Interesting point... I don't think the Esks would actually consider axing Hervey... but they may consider giving him a different position if it means keeping Jones...
Brandon Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Once again... where is the proof and why would Edmonton let him go to a division rival? Al Bundy 1
Fatty Liver Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Once again... where is the proof and why would Edmonton let him go to a division rival? Especially since they went 10 years between cups, they're not going to roll over that easily.
