Marois  I barely remember. Eagles I remember. Mike Ford? WTF is Mike Ford?

No Tkachuck, Khabibulin or Zhamnov? Christo!

is there a link to the roster?  I can't find one anywhere.

Hey, I'll admit it. I didn't recognize names of more than one of our alumni team.

Here I was thinking I was a fan and all ;)

I assume the one you recognized was Selanne.  So that means you had never heard of Dale Hawerchuk?  Dave Babych?  Thomas Steen?  ?????????

I'd guess Jim Kyte will fill that role.  They did throw down once back in the day.

I don't remember that fight but I remember when Kyte "fought" Dave Brown, when he viciously attacked Brown's fist with his glass jaw and went down in a crumpled heap, at which point the lunatic Brown kept punching him despite the fact that it was obvious Kyte was unconscious.  Actually kind of scary as it didn't look like Brown was going to stop.  I remember I was watching this game in Calgary with some Oiler fans, and when Brown started punching Kyte while he was lying defenceless they started saying "He's starting his lawn-mower on him!!"

Our best goalie was Khabibulin so where's he? Not that Essensa is bad, He'd be my 2nd choice and maybe Tim Cheveldae 3rd.

Zhamnov/Tkachuk the biggest surprises not on the team. Okay Tkachuk is big now so i can see that. Not that i loved him. Can never forgive him for holding out for more money when he was under contract. Bastid!

A lot of the surprises are people who are coaching, with the exception of Carlyle I'm sure the others could spare a day not assisting coaching.

That Mike Ford thing still is a wtf choice. He played in the WHA - I had to look that up. Marois too. Just dont remember him being that worthy.

Now I was glad to see Ron Wilson get in. He deserved better. In fact his career went 180 after going to STL.

Major plus to having McVie coach. Another guy who deserved better.

Eddie O, Tie D., where are ya?

Just because you never heard of Mike Ford it doesn't mean he's not deserving to be on the Jets team. Or Marois? He was drafted by Fergie's Rangers in & then John brought him here as well after he left New York. Not a bad defenseman for us as I recall. Tkachuk is morbidly obese, I doubt he could play & be safe.

Nah, you just misread my post.

Ford, Marois & Watters were the ones in particular I was referencing.

I actually really like that Jets alumni roster. I think a lot of you are so young you just don't know some on there, but man, that list is a throwback for me listening to Kielback on KY58 in our old blue station wagon. That'll be a fun game to watch. Can't tell you how glad I am the Habs (puke) aren't involved in this for once...

Technically Morris Lukowich is our WHA guy.  He played longer in the WHA then Wayne did.

I saw a interview with Gretzky where he said Lukowich's play was a huge factor in the final Avco Cup where the Jets beat the Oilers.

Kyte wasn't unconscious in that fight. Fergie's worst draft choice. 12th overall!

I love the lineup...didn't know who Ford was either but I remember the rest.

Mike ford is 64 years old. Played 2 seasons with the Jets in the WCHL and parts of 4 seasons with the Jets in the WHA.

Drafted by the red wings... 8th round 1972 draft. Not awful WHA numbers tho.

Not sure who he is tho.  That's just a quick Google search.

I'm not old enough to remember but I've heard the name Mario Marois mentioned quite a bit in my lifetime. Parents and hockey coaches mentioned that name lots. Guess it's kind of a catchy name.

Why no Domi? Cuz he had a 16 year career and only 2 years plus 9 games were spent in Winnipeg.  He's a leaf alumni not a Jet.

Eddie O? Besides working for NBC and probably covering other games that night.... what is he remembered for? His little speech I guess... he did put up some good numbers but it's pretty obvious that outside of Teemu Teppo and Essensa and King they are pretty much sticking to honoring the WHA and 80s years. The 90 years? Not so much. Can't blame them cuz the 90s is when they left.

You also can't assume that Hawerchuk didn't ask some of these guys. Maybe he did and they said no thanks.

Anyone wondering why Tkachuk isn't playing tho.... man... lol. You see gary lawless recently? Well Keith could pass as his twin. Morbidly obese is a nice way of putting things

Mike Ford was a minor league journeyman defenseman like a lot of players were when he signed with the Jets, (I believe) prior to the 75-76 season. He had a cannonading slap shot as fast, if not faster than Hull's. So, he became a point specialist on the PP. His shot was low & extremely accurate & the Jets forwards on the PP feasted on deflections that his shots caused. If a Mike Ford a shot got thru the opposition goalie had to deal with that terrifying shot. If it was just wide there'd be a huge BANG off the boards that would make the Arena crowd gasp.

Ford was intimidating on the PP for the Jets. When he original signed he was an average defenseman maybe even a bit of a liability but his play behind the blue line improved over the years & by the time he was finished as a Jets player he wasn't a bad in his own end either.  Again as Noeller said, some of you young guys just dismiss this selection as some strange WTF pick because he played in the WHA before your time so you don't feel he should be there but Ford deserves to be on the Heritage Jets team as much as anyone else.

No issues with you Goalie so no worries. I just read Frosty's opinion who called Mike Ford being on the team a "WTF choice" which I felt was really unfair, especially if he never saw him play. I don't have an issue with Frosty either except to say he's being really hard on Ford.  I'd have liked to have seen Terry Ruskowski & Rich Preston on the team as well as Anders Hedberg & Ulf Nilsson but perhaps they were asked & just couldn't be there.

Too many young kids that just want the 95 team redux. There's way more deserving players who wore a Jets jersey at one point than just the famous ones from later years. Contrary to popular belief, the Jets iced a lotta good teams over the years.

Agreed. The really old guys unfortunately due to age & health just can't play anymore. The old guys I think of when I think of the WHA Jets are Bobby Hull, Ab McDonald, Bill Sutherland & Joe Daley. It's too bad but it is what it is. So, I think the Heritage roster is a good mix of players from the WHA pre 1979 & NHL from 1979.
