Mark F Posted February 27, 2018 Report Posted February 27, 2018 Quote China is banking on clean energy technologies as major industrial exports that will compete with U.S. and Russian oil and gas and make China the renewable energy and electric vehicle superpower of a future energy world. According to the International Energy Agency, the Chinese public and private sectors will invest more than $6 trillion in low carbon power generation and other clean energy technologies by 2040. https://www.cfr.org/blog/chinas-coming-challenge-us-petro-economy

Rich Posted February 28, 2018 Author Report Posted February 28, 2018 https://www.pcmag.com/news/359543/chinas-internet-censors-ban-use-of-the-letter-n Quote On Monday, the Chinese government demonstrated just how much power it has over the opinions of its billion-strong population by deciding to ban use of a single letter. That letter is 'N' and its censorship followed moves by the Chinese Communist Party to remove the ten year limit on a presidency from the country's Constitution. As the BBC explained, the party is proposing to remove the expression "'shall serve no more than two consecutive terms' from the country's Constitution in relation to how long both the President and Vice-President can remain in power. If removed, it would mean current President Xi Jinping could rule for as long as he wants and continue to consolidate his power.

Mark F Posted March 4, 2018 Report Posted March 4, 2018 Quote Calgary-based Epoch Energy Development is conducting an extensive research and feasibility study to see if a Geothermal District Energy System is viable in the Town of Hinton in Alberta. The study, supported by all three levels of government, is looking at a proposed system that would produce renewable geothermal heat from marginally-producing oil and gas wells to heat the town’s public buildings. According to the town, there are more than 4,000 wells drilled below 2,500 metres within a 70-kilometre radius of Hinton. Many have bottom-hole temperatures above 140 degrees Celsius. Research indicates Hinton is located in the epicentre of geothermal potential from hot water aquifers in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, https://www.sustainablebiz.ca/2018/02/28/used-oil-wells-may-heat-alberta-towns-buildings/
