Because nothing promotes learning like an AR15 in the classroom. There is a traumatized generation being created in the US that will grow up to be fearful, reactive trigger-happy adults in about 25 years. It will be a series of bloodbaths culminating in a dictatorship which will promise to create and sustain "law and order"- mostly in core areas of cities and predominantly coloured communities.

There already is a traumatized generation that is fearful. It was created on 9/11, when the USA got a well-placed kick in its complacency that it was an unassailable empire protected by the ocean from any attack. Rather than re-assessing their foreign policy or adopting the British-style “stiff upper lip” that sustained them during the WW2 bombings, the States opted to ramp up their xenophobia and isolationism in a false effort to preserve their myth of “greatest country on earth” and “toughest cop on the beat”, seeing boogeymen on every corner and arming for anticipated insurgency because they had no real identifiable enemy country to fight.

Yes, they do have an identifiable enemy-each other.

Shell: $9.1B (https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/05/shell-earnings-q1-2022.html) [highest quarterly profit since 2008]

It's not inflation. It's not the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It's not the carbon tax.

It's greed. Rampant unchecked greed.

They finally figured out that there is an unquenchable thirst for gas and people will ***** and moan but in the end continue to fill up

Because the vast majority of people don't have a choice or a say in the matter.

What we need RIGHT NOW is a windfall profits tax on the petroleum industry.

I was at the Costco gas bar last Friday and most people were NOT filling up as they were wont to do in the past. Most were putting in much smaller amounts of fuel, judging from how long they were at the pumps.

They have been provided with an excuse to raise profits and have a ton of backing to increase profits more by eliminating taxes on their products in addition to benefitting from massive subsidies. O&G companies are raising dividends on stock as they see massive profits continuing into the future despite talks of phasing out O&G.

This was my thoughts with the obnoxious anti-vax/mask protests. Why are there so many people loudly willing to self-identify as idiots? Answer - there are people that have realized they can make personal gains(money/power/fame) by emboldening these people and their ignorant views (Trump/PP/Levant/Bernier) The dumbest of the dumb are now a known commodity.

And to think these are often the same people who tag people who disagree with them as sheep...

Because they've found others that don't care about facts, as well. They go on what they "feel" regardless of the evidence. And, since they've found other idiots to share with, they're happy.

Imagine if half who hear you, fist pump and shout "f*ck yah!"

That's the thing, in this age of social media you can easily find a group that supports your thinking, no matter how idiotic.  In the past you would know you're an idiot, and probably keep your mouth shut.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/article-nearly-1-in-4-homeowners-would-have-to-sell-their-home-if-interest/

Quote

Nearly one in four homeowners say they will have to sell their home if interest rates go up further, according to a new debt survey from Manulife Bank of Canada.

The survey, conducted between April 14 and April 20, also found that 18 per cent of homeowners polled are already at a stage where they can’t afford their homes.

Over one in five Canadians expect rising interest rates to have a “significant negative impact” on their overall mortgage, debt and financial situation, the survey found.

The Bank of Canada remains on a rate-hike path as it tries to tame inflation, which is now at a 31-year high at 6.8 per cent. On June 1, the central bank increased its key interest rate by half a percentage point to 1.5 per cent.

The Manulife survey also found that two-thirds of Canadians do not view home-ownership as affordable in their local community.

Additionally, close to half of indebted Canadians say debt is impacting their mental health, and almost 50 per cent of Canadians say they would struggle to handle surprise expenses.

My sister bought a house about 8 years ago. 225k. About 1200 Sq feet.

I bought a house 4 ish years ago. 1450 Sq feet. 440k. Difference is I'm 3 blocks closer to the river.

I'm lucky tho as I don't have a mortgage. Gotta love grandparents and set for life lotto tickets lol

Scary. Apparently in the US of A, the time to sell a house has crept up to a month and in many cities, many housing sales prices have fallen by as much as 20%.

They're about to deal with another housing crisis down south. Same up here.

Obama did nothing to protect homebuyers during his administration. Took the short-term gains of the economy bouncing back, rather than the long-term approach to actually protect homebuyers.

Quote

The man responsible for Toronto's deadly van attack has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years.

Justice Anne Molloy handed down her sentence Monday in a courtroom full of victims, family, friends and community members whose lives were forever changed on April 23, 2018.

Alek Minassian has also been sentenced to 20 years for 15 counts of attempted murder, which are to be served concurrently.

He was found guilty last year of 10 counts of first-degree murder and 16 counts of attempted murder.

Eight women and two men died on April 23, 2018 when a 25-year-old man bent on infamy, angered by women who wouldn't sleep with him and radicalized in the depths of the internet deliberately drove a rented van down a busy downtown sidewalk.

Another woman died more than three years later from injuries suffered that day.

An avalanche of harrowing victim impact statements, often presented through trembling voices and tears, was read into the record in Superior Court in Toronto during a sentencing hearing.
