It was for pretty selfish reasons too. It was because he knew where he made his money garbage and how he could get back to the NFL instead of being a team player. He may say he was a team guy, but he proved otherwise on that occasion. Still a real talented player and fiery competitor. He didn't refuse to play SAM. He said when asked by the media that he's an all-star at weak side HB and the secondary as a unit was likely weaker with him at SAM. He played SAM in the next game in Toronto and played how he always did. Atomic, BigBlueFanatic and Bigblue204 3
Fatty Liver Posted May 4, 2016 Report Posted May 4, 2016 Hefney highlights. http://www.bluebombers.com/2016/05/03/hefney-highlights-in-blue-and-gold/
Onyenegecha Posted May 5, 2016 Report Posted May 5, 2016 Hefney should be retiring as the first defensive back to ever win the Most Outstanding Defensive Player award. The 2011 MODP was going to a member of the Bomber defence, and he deserved the nod over Jovon. JJ was awesome that year as well, as was that entire D, but Hefney was the straw that stirred the drink. If Odell catches that ball, and the voters picked the right dude, Hefney would be remembered in a much, much different light. BigBlueFanatic and Bigblue204 2
bearpants Posted May 5, 2016 Report Posted May 5, 2016 I agree with you that Hefney was the best player on that defense... the punt return stats are what put Jovon over the top that year...

He did his best day in and day out and was rewarded with all star selections. We don't know how his release happened so it would be understandable he would have been very upset with the team after giving it his all. Some players are able to hide their feelings while others can't. Thanks to the Bombers for having given him the chance to retire where he was truly a fan favorite. His play made him the eminent swag.

johnzo Posted May 5, 2016 Report Posted May 5, 2016 (edited) One of my favorite memories of Hefney as a Bomber, fireman-carrying JJ back to the bench in 2011 after a huge pick six. Loved that 2011 defence. Edited May 5, 2016 by johnzo

Loved that 2011 defence. That was 09 against Montreal. The punt return where Jovon ran completely across the field twice and Hefney made a block coming back to get him the edge.
