FrostyWinnipeg Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 The Winnipeg Jets announced they have agreed to terms with 2014 fourth-round draft pick Nelson Nogier on a three-year, two-way NHL Entry-Level Contract worth an average annual value of $771,700. Nogier, 20, just completed his fourth WHL season, capping off the year playing in the Memorial Cup with the host, Red Deer Rebels. Nogier had 21 points (4G, 17A) in 69 regular season games in 2016-17 and added four points (2G, 2A) in 17 post-season contests. The Jets selected the Saskatoon, SK native 101st overall at the 2014 NHL Draft in Philadelphia after playing for the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades. He has played in two Memorial Cups, one with each Saskatoon and Red Deer. Nogier was named the WHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year in 2013-14. Goalie Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 He will have a hard time making the Moose to be honest. Not sure if he doesn't start off in Tulsa.
The Unknown Poster Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) Big kid. But he shoots the wrong way! Talent Analysis Nogier is a no-nonsense, stay-at-home defender. While there is not much of an offensive component to his game, he uses size and strength to defend in his own end. An injury during his second season in junior hockey has slowed his development a bit but he is once again back on the ice and logging a lot of ice time. As with many players his size, skating and mobility will constantly be a challenge. Future Nogier appears healthy once again following his shoulder surgery and is back with Saskatoon for his third WHL season in 2014-15. One of the younger teams in the league, the Blades have struggled early in the year and as a result Nogier was sporting one of the worst plus-minus marks in the league. A bit of a projection when he was selected by the Jets in the 2014 NHL Draft, his upside is that of a Dan Girardi-type defender who blocks shots and prevents opponents chances. Ducky Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 we need a 3RHD.....especially after we trade Myers. Nogier will make the Moose but I'm not sure he will ever make the Jets.
Goalie Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 Jets won't be trading Myers. That's the bottom line. Should probably just accept that. Myers name was thrown around by Maurice as an option for Captain or Assitant Captain. Myers really likes it in Winnipeg and won't be going anywhere. Nogier isn't that good, he might very well start in Tulsa and work his way up to the Moose, if he makes it farther than the Moose, i'll be shocked but... His Ceiling is probably that of a 3 RHD, i doubt he reaches that... and theres nothing wrong with making a career in the AHL which most likely he will do.
Ducky Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 So, if we keep Myers, you are happy with not protecting Trouba for the expansion draft if we have to protect Buff, Enstrom and Myers?

If this is the case, don't you think that teams realize this and it basically kills the return for Myers...? Problem that I see is that Stuart still has a NTC and won't be free agent until after the expansions draft... does that mean the Jets have to protect him? This whole process seems thrown together...

The other option is only protecting 8 skaters total (if I recall). So four D and four F. Which stinks. They could also trade one of the three NMC D men. Or make a deal with Vegas to not pick a guy left exposed which would be Trouba so that would be a heck of a deal.

Pretty sure most other guys don't have to be protected - in 1st or 2nd year contracts

Stafford and Perrrault would be UFAs. With the way expansion is setup, you are going to lose someone "decent" or with potential. Given that, I'd be fine with losing one of Dano, Armia, Copp, or Burmi. Goalie 1
Jimmy Pop Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 So long as Vegas gets a team sooner than later, we're in okay shape. If it's delayed a year and you have to protect Ehlers too, someone impactful is getting picked up. Comrie better not be selected!
