DR. CFL Posted June 26, 2016 Report Posted June 26, 2016 Kevin Glenn plays like he is afraid and nervous, Willy looks scared to death....you simply cannot play QB like that.

He still dropped back and tried to run the play called. That is a rookie thing. Not a qb that's been in the league as long as he has. This 8 defenders in the box/all out blitz has not been well handled in half a decade ... we need to practice against it during the week until we learn how to beat it without thought ... or we will continue to lose the same way over nd over

If we got a bunch of new receivers isn't it possible they didn't read the play right as well? wbbfan 1

No one here is naïve enough to blame the OL for EVERYTHING. Our OL isn't good but to lump that steaming pile of crap we saw Friday solely on them is unfair. Willy sucked yesterday. He played timid & scared all game long. He showed no leadership at all Friday night. No, it's not all the OL. It's Drew Willy as well. Vast majority of people in this thread are putting every thing on willy and nothing on the ol/play calling. The simple truth is that every aspect of offense has to improve. We dropped passes, missed throws, missed blitz pick up etc etc etc. A side from harris who was a star even with too few touches especially in the first half. 2 hours ago, Floyd said: Lots of excuses.... as always... Every QB or FA (especially during the Mack era) was an 'overpay'... Harris is not making $400k a year as a backup... Somehow Desjardins has landed two of the best starting QBs in the league, a prime LT FA and the best receiving core in the league... and stil stays under the cap. As for Barker, I agree they made a mistake... but there's a big difference between betting the farm on Ricky Ray than on Drew Willy... Every one thought he was nuts. People laughed at ott none stop. Over paid hank, then got a 2nd starter. Went all wr all day. And hes some how made it work and work bloody well. End of the day a great passing game will take you further in the cfl then any thing else. As there is allways time for one more long bomb. Mark F 1

They dropped some, the blitzed other times. It made picking up who was rushing very tough on a young centre. The cfl isnt an audible at the line league. There isnt time on 90% of plays unless your in the hurry up. A lot of teams tried a lot of strats to beat the every thing and the kitchen sink the als used to use. Some good sask and to teams tried double tights and were crushed. The best success was staying spread, running, using play action, and the hurry up to not let the D get the play in and set up smoothly.

17to85 Posted June 26, 2016 Report Posted June 26, 2016 The simple fact is that if Willy had connected on a bunch of those deep throws the Als would have had to back off. You beat the blitz with execution and it simply wasn't there last friday billfrank, Tracker, rebusrankin and 1 other 4

What's so complicated about that? It's on the QB and his failure to see it coming. Tracker 1

The QB always has the option of changing the play and making pre-snap adjustments depending on what he sees in the D formation.

Have you watched how much time is left by the time they get to the line and in position? how about what time the d moves up to show blitz? even though they dropped to 3 and 4 man rushes frequently they walk up from the normal formation unless rushed in a hurry up.

Andrew Harris stayed in & blocked the whole time & they brought receiver Darvin Adams in to block as well. He had no one to throw to. That's not Willy, that's just bad scheming.

To his credit opposite teams never know if the back will block, block and release, or go for a pass catch. We dont have a mike sellers any more of course. He did similar as HC here too.

I then countered with the 2015 Harris stats that shattered all of Willy's best stats. Harris is a great QB and is miles ahead of Willy. He proved it last night in Edmonton going up against the GC Champs. Plus I can garuntee you that he isn't getting anywhere near 400K in Ottawa. The brain trust in Ottawa is out thinking the Bombers front office. Ottawa has last year's MOP at QB and they still go out and get a better QB than Willy and the future of the club for probably less than 50% of what the Bombers are paying Willy. Sometimes you wonder how one team can be so smart while another team looks so lethargic in that department. Maybe it's time the Bombers take a chance and look at Franklin as a legitimate option for the backup role in Winnipeg if Willy continues to struggle. He was excellent when he started or relieved the starter last season with the Esks. He played better than Nicholls and was the reason they traded Nicholls to the Bombers during the season - they knew they had a good backup to Rielly in Franlin. Nicholls is an OK backup but has the potential to be nothing more than a low-end starter. We already know this. Franklin has the potential to be one of the best starters in the league and is probably the 2nd best backup in the league after Harris. Waiting until the end of the season with hopes of getting Franklin in free agency is foolish...unless Willy turns things around of course. If he doesn't the Bombers shouldn't hesitate to give up a pick for Franklin as there is no doubt in my mind that some other team will outbid the Bombers in the 2017 off-season if it comes to that...probably Saskatchewan. Trade for him and sign him to an extension tout suite.

The clip on this thread doesn't show how much time had elapsed on the 20 second clock. All I know is I was sitting in the stands thinking oh no the D is getting ready to stack the line but Pierce didn't see it. Even I saw it and I'm just a fan. He had time to change the play and throw a screen to the RB. But he didn't.

How ever if the pass beat the blitz or a block and release even, can easily go for a td. Harris is a good pass blocker. I dont think we have a good 2nd pass blocker though for the back field.
